Hey all! I wanted to give a general post regarding my poor communication.
I don't overlook this as a legitimate problem. Many of you have left messages and comments highlighting how bothering and unfair it is, particularly when I not only fail to deliver on estimated deadlines, but don't even give an update. And this is especially bad when people are not only waiting, but paying to wait.
My habit of poor communication isn't constrained to my work, it's a general issue that I display. I can always identify reasons for it, and in every case I'm able to find a story that reframes what is a general issue into a one-off accident. Problem is, I truly believe in these stories. I used to be a late-runner for everything, but I got a lot better once I stopped believing in the excuses that I was giving myself. I think for any bad habbit the struggle is trying to break out of the mentality that those stories and excuses hold legitimate weight.
I've said that I would work on this issue - I've said that I would start giving weekly updates regardless of circumstances, and so far I've not made any efforts in that direction. I've been gambling on delivering content on time with the intent that I wouldn't need to give updates so long as my content is routined.
So I've setup a strict regiment to check in every Monday and provide a weekly update, regardless of what I'm able to update on. A big part of my issue isn't so much that I don't want to disappoint people - obviously I don't - but that I don't want to face a chorus of dissapointment, and I guess the idea of giving updates and remaining in contact in situations like this, where content is taking a long time to make, means that I'll likely be facing a wave of dissapointment each time I log in. But if that's how I feel, I can get over that, and just as an aside, I definitely don't want people to mute their criticisms.
