Hello all, TD here. It’s dev diary time. All told the update sits at 933 statics, 79 animations, and 22,078 words. That works out to 93 statics, 25 animations, and 4,085 words since the last report. Things have been a bit of a slog this week, a side effect of working so long on the same scene. Writing a scene with determinant paths is a tricky thing. It’s the magic of the medium IMO, but accounting for everything (I hope) kills your internal sense of momentum and as someone who works more on feel than anything else, that is a key component on keeping things running smooth. Putting yourself in the moment, roleplaying it, feeling it… hell, I even say the dialogue aloud as I write. So a constant stream of if/elif/ else statements to re-contextualize dialogue for people who say… fucked Veronica, is more of her friend, or has a nonexistent relationship with her breaks that stream of consciousness if that makes any sense. GIL faces a similar malaise. Staring at the same map, with the same characters, isn’t too unlike being stuck in one place for too long. You start to crave a change in scenery. You want to stretch your legs. You want to talk with other people. That is, of course the job; I’m not complaining. In fact, I do this to myself because I ultimately enjoy the process of accounting for everything. I’m pretty good at it, but it doesn’t always come easily and its not always fun. I’m only writing this here because I figured… why not. I’ve got to say something in these things and being open about the creative process is helpful as I can be slow to internalize my experiences otherwise. So, basically, right now work is feeling like a bit of a grind. It’s not the first time, it’s not the last time, but it is the present. Thankfully, though, we have the best job in the world. One where we can take a step back after all the slog and feel the immense satisfaction of having willed something to life. I am not a spiritual person, but it truly is a divine feeling.
