Sheamus is done with WWE, but is still under contract as of this moment. Sheamus had signed a new WWE deal in 2023, in which he had previously said was a five year contract. However, it was claimed to Fightful that somehow the deal is up soon, though the circumstances weren’t made clear. It was just claimed to us that he was offered a restructured extension and rejected it.
AEW sources had no idea that the news was coming, according to those we spoke to in the company. Sheamus and Claudio Castagnoli remain close, and Claudio is expected to be one of many to push for Sheamus in AEW. However, it was noted by one AEW source that CMLL and outside of AEW are options for them to continue to work together. He is expected to have heavy interest from indies both domestically and abroad, as well as on the signing and convention scene. He’s based out of Nashville now.
One WWE source we talk to claimed that Sheamus was offered less money to stay in WWE, and they considered that an insult after the work he put in.
Regarding the Sheamus name, his real name is Stephen Farrelly. However, he did use “Sheamus O’Shaunessy” outside of WWE for years prior, so it’s not unreasonable to think he could use it in full now. We’re working to get a confirmation on that.
Sheamus does have representation, we’re told.
