With winter over, Pigeon and I have gotten very involved in restoring my parents' koi pond to it's former glory. It's been an absolute project, but we are almost at the point of smooth sailing with it.Looking at and feeding these critters everyday has me wanting to draw them, sure, but really I'm thinking I'd like to take another crack at making a critter of them (and then make our personal koi-children, Chao and Chalico, into said critters). Koi have some very distinct shape language, and a kind of wise-looking attitude in their faces (the adults anyway). I wanted to do a few studies to try to commit their structure to memory a little better.Next time I'll probably do some sort of specualtive sketch on what Chalico and Chao will grow up to look like based on their baby colorations.
