View-Master Interactive Vision again?

DESCRIPTION

I have finished the second version of my restoration of certain episodes of The Muppet Show. I'll also have to go back to the 1960 Jayne Mansfield film Too Hot to Handle, redoing it in HD.

I am now testing the View-Master Interactive Vision DVD material again. It's been hard to get these DVD edits working with the actual game console, which expects VHS, is more finicky than I expected and can apparently tell the difference. Although two of the tapes worked, for the most part, in initial tests, and that's still the case.

I shifted the material about seven lines upward to match the raw DV captures. At this point the interactive component stopped working altogether.

During the Muppet Show work, I noticed that I'm having issues with Gamma (brightness) differences when switching from Mac to PC, which has always been a problem. So the Mac renders are brighter than they were supposed to be. I thought this would explain the poor audio, but I've re-rendered the material now and it didn't seem to have any effect.

So I went back to the original edits of these, which were shifted "lower" onscreen to include all of the data bursts, some of which are cut off in the DV captures. I also rendered them on Mac, and then also on PC, retaining their intended brightness in both cases, I think.

I think my results were noticeably worse than Zachary's first time round, and my results now are fairly similar. Oscar's Letter Party and Magic On Sesame Street are mostly functional, with some failure spots including, especially, the first segment on the tape (and its intro prior to that). The others I'm not getting anything from, as of yet, and the alternate audio has a terrible buzzing.

You're the Director also works, apart from glitched graphics in the credits. That wasn't an option last time as the interlacing was wrong. (Muppet Madness didn't work.)The preshow for Learn to Play Together then worked, which is unusual, but it stopped with the white flash of the system logo. I suspect there are lots of "kill flashes" especially in the preshow which stop the console from recognizing the tape suddenly.I assumed Learn to Play Together wouldn't work, and it didn't for awhile, but the console recognized the A for Ape story, then failed during a tape fault during The Greeblies. It worked again for "Jump Jive," and I then rewound the DVD, which was now entirely functional for the bulk of the program. So there are flashes and faults, I guess, which are shutting off the console when it would otherwise be working.
