you didn't have to come over. you didn't need to drive across town after midnight but you did it anyway. you were afraid i wouldn't find sleep, that i'd be awake through sleepless hours in some attempt to make something of the dark. i wasn't going to, but i understand the fear. you show up at my front door in your pajamas and drag me into bed. pulling me down between the sheets in a bid to bring me to sleep. wherever you lead, you know i'll follow.
