Early Access: New Drift System Feedback
DESCRIPTION

Hey everyone, Ben here again! If you missed my earlier post on the new drift system you can find it HEREIf you’re a member of the Point Of Impact or x WOW tiers, you should now have early access to the new drift system I’ve been working on (If anyone on Point of Impact or xWOW tier doesn't have access to the new handling they need to send us a DM on Patreon with their gamertag/Steam ID etc and we will hook it up - with usual caveats that whilst we may pop on over the weekend there may be a delay in getting your account linked as it is the weekend). Depending on feedback, we will roll it out to the other tiers next week and to everyone else after that.

This is very much a work-in-progress version, but it’s far enough along that I’d really value real-world feedback from people who spend a lot of time behind the wheel.

How to Enable the New Drift SystemYou can enable the new drift system through the DJ Menu by following this path:

DJ Menu -> Mix My Car -> Handling -> Drift Model -> Experimental Drift Model

Once enabled, it will replace the existing drift behaviour, but you can switch back and forth and compare them directly.

Known Limitations (For Now)A couple of things to be aware of at this stage:

The handbrake input does not currently do anything in the new drift system. I have an item on my todo list to add this feature in!

It is still possible to roll your car during a drift, especially on Sky Track pieces or when going over the brow of a hill. I had thought this was potentially a bug where my code was forcing the car to roll too much rather than cancelling  out, but it seems to be more related to the centre of mass/gravity of the car being a bit too high for sideways action. I’m working away on this one and hoping to get a good fix for it soon.

Both of these are known issues and on my radar. This early access phase is about feel, control, and core behaviour rather than polish.

Feedback WelcomeI’d really like to hear what you think:

How it feels compared to the existing drift system

Where it works well

Where it falls down or feels confusing

Anything that surprised you, good or bad

You can leave feedback in the comments on this post, or DM me directly if you’d prefer (either here or on Discord). Even short impressions are useful.

Thanks again for supporting us - it makes a difference.
