Hello, today I decided to share with you some selected versions from the history of Holly's Necklace, and as I was doing so I was reminded of something I had completely forgotten.
I named each version so you could know what to pay attention to, and to have a general understanding of the process of its creation.
While preparing this post, I stumbled upon something I had completely forgotten, that Encore was originally created as the intro to Holly's Necklace. As Long Awaited Journey got a bit more developed, I felt like the transition between Holly's Necklace and Presudeos was too sharp, so at first I tried to resolve this by giving Holly's Necklace a longer intro, which eventually turned into a different piece on the album - Encore.
You could also hear that the initial idea actually came from that middle guitar/synth part, that song-like melody, and that the whole thing was originally intended to be more song-like overall. You can especially hear that in the 2nd half of version 2, where I leave it open for lyrics, which in the end came in the form of the vocoder you know from the final version.
Overall, you can hear how these things transform and mutate towards the final result. Which might seem obvious now, but it's good to remember that it was never there as it was created. Or was it there from that very first melody, like a seed waiting to grow, and the music was just writing itself?
Lastly, another interesting thing I was reminded of while doing this is that the last version of Holly's Necklace was exported on Nov 10, 7 days before the album release. I think it was one of the real final touches of Long Awaited Journey.
