Punch Wood? - Pt 2

DESCRIPTION

As Harry walked over to the nearest tree, he looked it up and down. It had a square look to it as all things in this new world did. Sizing up the tree, Harry reared back and gave it a good punch. When his fist connected, the section of the tree outlined itself to look like a square block. Giving it another hit, the block started to develop a crack. Seeing the progress, Harry kept punching the tree, until around the 15th punch, the section gave way with a crack.

‘Crack!’

The block section then seemed to shrink into a palm sized block and float over the section of where it once was bigger.

“Huh” Harry said. He then picked up the floating cube and looked at it. It was still the same as what it looked like before but only smaller.

‘Interesting’ Harry thought.

Taking the cube, he then walked back over to where Bellatrix was sitting in the field, books spread out around her. Seeing the sight, caused Harry to pause, the nature and manner of which she was studying the books reminded Harry of Hermione for a moment. The older woman looked excited, surrounded by the books and just seemed engrossed in the material. Bellatrix seemed to have sensed that Harry was standing there, looked up.

“Harry, I have read through these books here and I think I have found some information for us that will be useful.” Bellatrix informed him.

“Oh? What have you found?” Harry inquired as he approached her and sat down near her. Bellatrix then pushed the book in front of him.

“This is the Biomes book. This book gives a fairly detailed description of each of  this world’s environments and what to expect in each one. From what I can gather looking around and seeing nothing but trees and this field. I would gander to guess that we are in the Forest Biome.” Bellatrix lectured.

Nodding his head, Harry opened the book on the Forest section and saw a little picture that showed a miniature version of the forest. Underneath it was a little paragraph:

The Forest biome in Minecraft is a lush and verdant environment teeming with life and natural beauty. Towering trees, predominantly oak and birch, form a dense canopy that shades the forest floor, creating a tranquil atmosphere filled with chirping birds and rustling leaves. Players can explore these woodlands to gather a variety of resources, including wood, saplings, and mushrooms. The forest biome is also home to a diverse array of wildlife, such as chickens, pigs, cows, and sheep, making it an excellent hunting ground for food and resources. Additionally, players may stumble upon hidden treasures like woodland mansions or encounter friendly villagers in secluded villages nestled within the trees. With its scenic vistas and abundant resources, the forest biome offers both a serene retreat and a bustling hub of activity for players to explore and enjoy in their Minecraft adventures.

“Ok. This reads a lot easier than Theory. Shame it doesn’t give us anymore information.” Harry stated after reading the paragraph.

“Well this is suppose to be an adventure based world, Harry. I feel the book is only suppose to be a loose description of what to expect. Nothing more, nothing less.” Bellatrix stated. Harry nodded in agreement. That was true, but still he would have like more information.

“Also, I did notice, though while reading, the books are made to act as an encyclopedia of sorts. Anytime you come across something you don’t know you use one of  the other books to find the reference to it. For example, Oak Trees. Like the ones around us. The resources book states the Oak Trees give wood blocks, apples, leaves and saplings. If I want more information on, say, wood blocks. I open the Materials book and go to the ‘W’ section. And here Wood Blocks.”

Looking down at the book, Bellatrix just dropped in his lap.

Wood blocks in Minecraft have a multitude of uses, making them one of the most versatile resources in the game. Firstly, they are essential for crafting a variety of tools, weapons, and armor, serving as the primary material for crafting wooden swords, pickaxes, axes, shovels, and more. Additionally, wood blocks are crucial for building structures and furniture, providing a renewable and easily obtainable building material for players to create anything from simple shelters to intricate architectural designs. Wood blocks can also be transformed into planks, which are utilized in crafting numerous items such as chests, doors, fences, and even boats. Furthermore, they serve as fuel for furnaces, allowing players to smelt ores, cook food, and produce various materials. Finally, wood blocks can be used decoratively, adding texture and warmth to interior and exterior designs, and can even be crafted into decorative blocks like stairs, slabs, and fences to enhance the aesthetic appeal of builds.

“Impressive to say the least. Especially since you managed to find all this information out in the time it took for me to punch the tree.” Harry said in awe at what Bellatrix had accomplished.

“Of course, I was a top student when I went through Hogwarts. Top of my class, Prefect, Head Girl, and 10 NEWTs. If I hadn’t gotten married and to join the Death Eaters, my sisters and I would have conquered the Ministry or something.” Bellatrix stated with an air of superiority. The tone of which made Harry roll his eyes.

“Sure, sure. I bow to you superior intellect.” Harry stated sarcastically, “Well while you did that I punched a tree and got this little wooden block. Let’s see what we can do with it.”

Harry showed her the cube and placed it down in front of them, only instead of it staying a small cube, it made a popping noise and turned back into a meter sized block again.

“Bloody hell!” Harry gasped. He was not expecting that. “Why did that do that?”

“I think it is because you place it down.” Bellatrix spoke. She then gave the block a poke with her finger. “Strange it feels like a regular piece of wood but it is a cube. You can apparently break this down even further, Harry. See.”

Bellatrix then handed him the materials book again, after opening to the page she was looking for.

Once transformed from a wooden block, a wooden plank in Minecraft becomes a versatile building material with numerous crafting possibilities. With its smooth texture and warm hue, wooden planks serve as the foundation for many structures and creations within the game. These planks can be further crafted into various items using the crafting table. For instance, they can be used to create essential tools such as wooden pickaxes, axes, shovels, and swords, providing players with the basic implements needed for resource gathering and combat. Additionally, wooden planks are crucial components in constructing a wide range of building blocks, including stairs, slabs, fences, gates, doors, and even decorative elements like signs and item frames. Furthermore, wooden planks play a vital role in crafting furniture and functional items such as chests, crafting tables, beds, boats, and more, offering players the means to customize their gameplay experience and build intricate structures in the world of Minecraft.

“Okay. So we can turn this into a plank now? But how?”

“I think we can use that tapestry Death mentioned in the letter. Check your pockets.” Bellatrix told him. Harry nodded and dug into his pockets, and pulled out a piece of parchment looking material. Unfolding it, he saw it was only about a meter square, with a 2x2 block in the center. Placing it down on the ground, Harry looked at it. The smaller squares were only little bigger than the small block that the wood cube would turn into.

“I wonder.” Harry then proceeded to punch and hit the Wood Block until it broke again. He then picked it up and placed it in one of the squares on the tapestry. It seemed to then lock into place.

“Now what?” Bellatrix asked.

“Hmm. . .” Harry then pushed the block down and with a pop. And like a spring the block sprang up and turned into 4 Wooden Planks. That then turned into one plank with a small 4 hovering over the top of it.

“That breaks so many Alchemy Rules. I don’t even want to think of it.” Bellatrix said with her hands on her head.

“You do remember we are in another world, right? Our old rules don’t apply here.” Harry mentioned.

“Ugh”

Picking it up, Harry then put it back down. Only this time, only one plank was placed down, and the cube in his hand had the number change from 4 to 3.

“Cool”

Harry then noticed that the sun was starting to set, and at a quick pace as well. Turning to Bellatrix, “What was the recommended shelter that Fate told us to build?”

Pulling out the letter once more, Bellatrix read through it, “Fate says we should use a 2 high, 2 long and 1 high block shelter. Seems kinda small but maybe it will be bigger on the inside?”

“Ok. I’m going to get more wood to turn into planks and you put everything back into the chests. Its getting awfully dark, and were not setup for the night just yet.”

Nodding in agreement, Bellatrix began to gather up the books and other things she took out. Harry lightly jogged over to the already damaged tree and started to punch it.

‘Ok, 2x1x2. Kinda small, let's offset it a bit and add a roof. That's 20 planks.’ Harry thought to himself. ‘4 planks per block.’

Once he had punched the fifth block, Harry picked up the cluster. As he did so, Harry heard a noise in the woods. It was a hiss, and a groan. The sound made the hair on the back of his neck stand. Backing away slowly with the blocks, Harry quickly turned and ran back to Bellatrix.

“Where’s the tapestry?” Harry quickly asked.

“Right here. Why?” Bellatrix asked. She was a bit alarmed, it was the first time she had seen Harry like this since they arrived.

“There is something or multiple things in the woods. I think it is waiting for the sun to set completely.” Harry said, as he opened the grid, placed the 5 Wood Blocks and turned them into 20 planks.

Understanding his alarm, Bellatrix, looked over his shoulder and she too could see things moving in the woods.

Harry then started to place the planks down, then paused. The measurements didn’t add up right. Building around the storage chest wasn't right, unless he didn’t add corners.

“Oh that bitch. She gave us bad measurements. I’m going to kill Fate.” Harry swore. “Bellatrix quick, lay down next to the chest.”

Hearing the urgency, Bellatrix laid down next to the chest, as Harry quickly started to place the rest of the blocks. Just as he was about to go in to set the last two blocks, a slight breeze picked up and that’s when Harry noticed he had left the crafting grid on the ground. As the wind picked it up like it was nothing and started to blow away.

‘Idiot!’ He thought to himself. Harry then ran after it, and with agile easy plucked it out of the air, but unfortunately it brought him back to the forest edge. And the sun had finally set. It was pitch black as well.

“FuFuFuFU! I see you.” A voice laughed out in the darkness of the woods.

Now hearing a strange laughter, normally didn’t send chills down Harry’s spine. Afterall he had heard Voldemort’s a few times, but something like this seemed to be a primal chill. It reminded Harry of the one time he heard about a stalker’s laugh.

“POTTER! HURRY UP!” Harry heard Bellatrix yell.

Eyes going wide, Harry sprinted back to the makeshift shelter.

~Whoosh

Something flew past his head, then Harry heard a faint click of the tongue. “Tsk. I missed.”

Picking up the last two planks, Harry slid into the shelter, and placed the last two blocks sealing them in for the night.
