For years, I resisted studying John Singer Sergeant's charcoal drawings. In an atelier environment dominated by precision and drawing at a snails pace, they seemed frivolous and difficult to follow.
Fast forward to today and I understand that they have just as clear a methodology and philosophy as any other style of drawing. And that quite naturally, as it is with all the artwork sergeant created, we have so much to learn from them!
Though these are charcoal drawings, we will be working in graphite as per usual. So bring all of the same materials you normally would. Let's see what time allows, but I think it would be cool if we could do two master studies during the session. Let's see…
