Community Challenge 128 | Write something using only the E, G, B, and low E Strings
Hi Everyone,This week’s Community Challenge is: Write something using only the E, G, B, and low E Strings
What is a Community Challenge? It’s a weekly reminder that writing music clears up a lot of music theory questions. It’s a reminder that learning music theory without writing is like learning a language without speaking it or collecting backpacking equipment without leaving the house.
Each Community Challenge includes specific instructions for your writing - like it must be in a specific key, or using a certain music theory concept, or a particular technique - but the prompt also typically starts with “WRITE SOMETHING…”
I use the word “something” on purpose. These Challenges aren’t about writing a finished song or a complete thought. You certainly CAN if you want to (and if you have the time,) but I urge you to start by just writing whatever you have time for: a chord progression, a riff, a melody, a drum and bass groove, a fingerpicking pattern, etc. As long as it fit with the prompt, it’s welcome.
Record using recording software or a voice memo or a cassette tape - whatever you have available - and upload your recordings to this Community Forum Post.
