Hi Everyone,This is kind of a lesson/challenge combo. I mean part of the reason I film my community challenge process is so you learn something from the process, but I do a bit more explaining in this one. Specifically, I talk about how to come up with a complementary idea for something you've already written, as well as how to straighten out and organize the idea you already have.
I do want to emphasize that I'm showing you the process. This isn't a finished product. The lyrics are BS, literally made up on the spot, and the performance is shaky. The goal of this session isn't to have a polished, finished song - it's to expand on the very basic idea I initially came up with to push it closer to a whole song idea. So it's sloppy, shaky, out of tune, wonky, and sometimes just bad. Thats part of the process.
Community Challenges are weekly writing prompts to remind you that creativity is the best way to integrate music theory and fingerboard concepts into your day-to-day guitar playing. Writing music is important for your musical development even if you don't play to perform anything you've written. Want to play with other people better? Write music. Want to play better solos? Write music. Want to be in a band? Write music. Want to learn a ton of cover songs? Write music. It helps with everything. Try it out.
The "descriptive method" is one way to write a complementary part, and I explain how to do it somewhere around the 27 minute mark and show how I come up with something.
Overall, I like this song idea and I think it's about time to record a little EP for my acoustic singer songwriter stuff.
