Hi Everyone,This week, the challenge is to write a chord melody. Here are the steps to follow:
Pick a key
Write a very simple melody on the high E and/or B string in that key (the simpler, the better)
Write out your melody using Tab paper (I've attached some below)
Figure out a chord progression that works with your melody
Each note of your melody could be the root, third, fifth or even 7th of a chord in the key
Map out the options available to you based on the notes in your melody
Do a little trial and error to see what works best for your melody
Find chord voicings for these chords that sound nice and allow you to play the chords and melody simultaneously
TAB your final result and record a performance
Post your performance to the Community Forum (post your tab, too if you want!)
What is a community challenge? It's a weekly reminder to be creative with what you're learning. One of the best ways to improve your skills and musicianship is to use what you're learning here to actually write something! You're welcome to participate in any previous challenge at any time. Some are easier than others!
