This challenge is all about your personal best. The goal is to write something that gets you right to the edge of how fast YOU can play. Write a riff or a melody and figure out how to play it as fast as you can. A few tips to keep in mind:
Once you write your riff, follow these steps to maximize your speed:
Commit to the riff - don't keep changing it! Commitment gives you a consistent pattern to learn, changing it all the time makes it difficult to go fast.
Choose a fingering and commit: slow the riff down and think through any "traffic jams" you might run into. Anytime you have a situation where you don't know which finger to use, pick one and STICK with it. I recommend tabbing out your riff and writing in which fingers you're using to make sure you're consistent.
Choose a picking pattern and commit: If you're changing your picking pattern every time you play, that'll slow you down and cause "freeze" points. Think through the best downs and ups with your pick and make sure you're playing the riff with the same picking pattern every time.
A lot of speed has to do with certainty and commitment. I did a LOT of repetitions of this riff and I had all these things in mind as I kept getting more comfortable with this fast picking.
