Hey everyone! Before I dive into the next update, I thought it’d be good to share a quick update on where things stand and what’s coming up.
Some of you might already know this, but originally, this game was planned with NTR as the main theme.
When I first started working on it, I had 2–3 game concepts in mind—and honestly, I picked the NTR one for a pretty simple reason:
Ren’Py scripting was tough for me back then, and I needed to make something linear. And I thought, “Hmm… maybe this genre fits that format best?”
Also, in my country, NTR is considered one of the more popular genres, so I didn’t realize just how many people really didn’t like it.
And well… a lot of people expressed that dislike in the comments on my itch page.
(No joke—I think I got more hate in those few days than I did in 2 years working as an animator, lol.)
So I made the decision to drop NTR altogether.
But that came with a cost: about 60~70% of my original ideas basically had to be thrown out.
That’s why I think this game will probably wrap up in about 4 or 5 more updates.
Once New Family is finished, I’m planning to try a new format—something less linear, maybe more sandbox-style.
To make that work, though, I’ll need to seriously level up my scripting game. So right now, I’m planning to use side characters as a sort of playground—to experiment with systems, test mechanics, and practice a bit.
And hey, if some of those ideas work out, they might show up in the next game 👀
Anyway, the main reason I’m writing all this is because I’ve noticed people wondering if NTR is still coming—since parts of the story still kind of have that vibe, even though I cut it.
So let me be super clear: there will be no NTR in this game.
I made a promise early on to remove NTR, and some of you chose to support me because of that. I won’t go back on that.
As for those who are hoping it might return—mainly because you noticed some leftover dialogue options—here’s the truth: New Family is the first game I’ve ever released publicly, and I care a lot about it.
So I left those parts in not because I planned to use them, but because… if I ever go back to being an animator and game dev becomes a hobby again, I might want to finish this project privately, just for myself.
That’s all. If that gave anyone the wrong impression—sorry about that!
