Happy new year!
Between work and the holidays I was already fairly loaded, but I also decided to maneuver away from the regular videos to work on 2 upcoming ones since The Thing made me realize I hadn't done videos on either and I've referenced them a few times already so should knock them out. I'm also thinking of a way to get a copy of the Thing out that's not an art contest like the usual (but also not some kind of lottery) so that'll also be happening in the next few weeks. Unlike some previous years I'll be uploading in January since my schedule is so different now, so those will be soon. Naturally credits will carry over!
While the order isn't settled down, here's what you can be expecting for the first half or so of 2025:
Age of Decadence
The Frictional Games
A few other time travel titles
Warhammer games
Adventure games
Warhammer has been a tricky spot, as I didn't want it to dominate the channel, but I realize it's now been about 3 years since I did a video on one of the games. Warhammer 3 had a lot going on behind the scenes both in the realm of the game and my irl side at the time and I didn't want to be spending too much time sunk into the franchise. Total War Warhammer 3 is something I'd like to come back to for a video, but it'd require them doing some kind of siege overhaul since that side of the game is still as broken as ever despite their other improvements and has kept me out from spending a lot of time in it. That said there are still a LOT of other titles out there in a range from great to horrendous so it's not like that source is drying up anytime soon.
Space Marine 2 is...complicated. Mainly because there are a lot of things I want to talk about in that game, particularly with the narrative, but since I both voiced a few roles in the game and the company had sent me the Titus Funbox it's definitely a huge conflict of interest across multiple lanes to put a regular review out. If this video does come, I think it'll be some kind of Patreon only video talking about the game (though the format might not be too changed up). By design the Patreon doesn't have high tiers for exclusive content, paywalled communication, or anything else that makes it particularly lucrative since the idea is just to make more time on videos for everyone, so I don't want to stray too far off that range and this would be more of a special circumstance.
(This is actually in the closet for now, I don't have a good place to display it yet and my new office is still pretty barebones)
This has definitely been the year I've been hit with the most curveballs between a new industry job and getting pace with working with dozens of different dev teams, moving places on short notice, the back to back disasters, and a lot of other things coming up that has kept the video side more strained and I'm painfully aware it's the least amount of uploads I've had in several years. Even the Halloween adventure game video required a change in title since I realized I wouldn't have time to cover the game I wanted to, though that will also be coming in the next few months. As much as I like working on the Halloween videos I've realized there are just too many strange games I want to do those styles of videos on to contain to once a year, plus I don't want it to be a once a year ritual that inevitably leaves some people disappointed if it wasn't the kind of game they were hoping for and it also keeps me from going nuts trying to endlessly out-crazy the previous year's entry since that's just impossible. Plus, there are so many flavors of crazy.
Anyways, with work and irl chaos significantly slowed down along with having a space I can work more hours in I think this year should be an improvement on that front! I still have a ton outlined, and some games just recorded and ready to edit, so I don't plan on dropping this anytime soon. I'm incredibly thankful for your support throughout this year and before, and if I'm ever in a position where I'm not able to do significant work on videos in the backend we'll just get another paused month as we've done a few times before. If you're paying me, I'm working.
Thanks so much as always! Here's to 2025.
