This chapter was the first time we worked within a unified theme.
Not just emotionally, but historically, culturally, structurally.
All three cases emerged from the Soviet Union.
A system defined by control, denial and silence.
That alone created a frame.
A perimeter we could move inside of.
It gave us focus.
There is something powerful about limitation when it is intentional.
A cold architecture that holds everything together:
visually, sonically, psychologically.
The muted colors.
The rigid silhouettes. The absence of warmth.
It became a world.
And within that world, the cases began to speak to each other.
For Father, this was equally compelling.
We explored sound through a different lens, subtle references, textures that feel restrained, almost surveilled. A faint echo of something Russian, without becoming literal.
A soundscape that feels watched. Controlled. Contained.
People often ask if the sound is changing.
It isn’t. Not in the way one might expect.
The sound follows the case. It always has.
What changes… is us.
Experience shifts perception. Perception shifts decisions.
And over time, those decisions shape the work.
We don’t evolve by abandoning what we are, we evolve by going deeper into it.
This chapter simply required a colder place to write from.
