The group talks about the subject a bit longer, but there isn’t much more to say. At least not while walking down a crowded road, especially since it dealt with irl matters. Which while the System doesn’t prevent players from talking about many irl matters around the locals, it does have limits.
So it is not that long after that the team enters the Adventurers Guild.
They look around and feel right at home. It’s the same old guild with the same design they’d been seeing since they first joined. After years of visiting the guild in basically every town they’ve been to, the place had really built up some nostalgia with them.
Also, the fact that they’re all set up literally the same made knowing where you needed to go easy even on your first visit. Though their eyes are soon drawn to something out of place. There is a single decoration, right on the platform attached to the guild master’s room. And keeping with the theme for this city, the decoration was a small idol.
Rosha raises an eyebrow and look over at Courtney, not wanting to ask out loud as some people might be touchy about her not knowing what Deity the idol was to.
Courtney shakes her head, “Later.”
And so the four of them joined the correct line for matters of housing and waited a short hour and a half to be seen by a receptionist slash real estate agent. Thankfully, there was only two groups in front of them or they might have needed to wait for tomorrow.
Not that they’d be waiting in line again. The Guild knows the kind of lines that can create. So instead, they let the line work as usual, but if at the end of the day you’re still waiting, they’ll schedule you a meeting with someone else the next day if you still want a try.
Well, if the line is long enough and they don’t predict the next few days will be as busy, they might schedule you another day or so out. Still, it works and they don’t have to keep a bunch of agents waiting around on the clock.
And of course, this is only for those looking for a more permanent place to stay. If you just want to stay a night or two, any of the general receptionists can handle that.
Anyway, the party steps up to the counter and a sound bubbles pops into existence. Partly an illusion to help display the edges of it, but also the illusion serves the purpose of hiding the mouths of those within.
The halfling receptionist pushes back a stray strand of wispy shadow hair, “You’ve had enough time in line, so you better not waste any now that you’re here. What kind of place are you all looking for?”
Jason was embarrassed, realizing he hadn’t actually thought about what they would want specifically.
Good thing Courtney takes the lead. “We are focused on privacy, no preference of location, and two or three bedrooms with two baths. There should also be a small backyard set up for training and meditation, preferably with a babbling water feature , though that is optional. We want at least a stove, if not a full kitchen. Oh, and it would be best if the main rooms all stemmed off from a big central sitting room.”
Rosha fake coughs, “And don’t prioritize this, but being near a library wouldn’t hurt.”
Courtney nods, “Not a bad idea. So yes, please change our location preference to match that. Oh, and near a smaller site of worship for rangers who base themselves in the wilds. Though given the city, I doubt that is much of a problem.”
The halfling smiles, “You might be surprised. It sounds like you don’t have a specific deity you follow?”
Courtney’s eyes snap into a hard stare, “My lady worships the wilds and rangers thereof. If a shrine to such a being isn’t available, something devoted to nature’s wildness will do.”
The halfling holds her hands up, “Eyh now, no need to bite my head off. The city is a bit more open than most places about such things.”
Courtney, “Forced revelation isn’t being open.”
The halfling shrugs, “Well, let me find you a place. Though there is one final bit you might want to have a preference for. The city is quite diverse in construction once you get off the main roads, so is there a style of building you prefer?”
Courtney glances at Rosha who shrugs. “Well, Jason, do you have a preference?”
Jason shrugs, “Bamboo is a nice aesthetic?”
The halfling nods, “I’ll just mark that down as a final preference if there are too many Guild locations that match your requests.”
The halfling then begins to flip through a giant book sitting right in front of her. Jason can’t make heads or tails of what is written, either being a different language, a cipher, or simply obscured by some ability.
Though whatever is there, the halfling can clearly glean what she needs as she is transcribing a list onto a clay tablet.
Well, it looks like a clay tablet. Said tablet clearly has something magical going on with it.
As the halfling writes on said tablet with her stylus, what she has written previously scrolls upwards and off the top of the tablet like a modern tablet. Which was definitely needed, as by the end, she had written down quite a few things.
Then, once she closes the book, the halfling begins to scroll through the entries on the tablet. Some get swiped off the tablet. Others are flicked upwards to the top. This continues for a while, until she looks up, “Okay. I’ve got a good fifty or so places that should fit. I’m going to ask you some questions to help cut this down.”
And that’s when things began to drag for the group. Before, it was simply boring because there wasn’t anything else to do besides watch. Now, they had to pay attention as the receptionist asked boring questions.
