Delfus claps his hands, “Okay! So the bathroom setup is unconventional, but you seem to be down with it. So let’s take a look at the bedrooms and the rooftop training area.”
The group turns away from the bathroom and are guided into said bedrooms. Though there are only two of them, a main bedroom and a guest room. Or rather, this place was likely set up for a family of three.
Inside the big bedroom, there are two proper walk-in closets along the wall opposite the door. Then, on the right, hanging on the wall, there was a large plush carpet. And thankfully, the carpet had a simple geometric pattern and not any religious connotations to be seen. Likely because this was meant to be a general house.
Besides, it wasn’t like the place was free of religious elements. Between the two closets, there was a nook with places for incense and an idol or two.
Oh, and something that had Rosha and Courtney blushing, there was only a single bed. Quite a big bed, but it was a single unit and not two beds pushed together.
Delfus didn’t notice anything and simply commented that, “You’ll have to source your own beds. Though you’ll need to have someone for the Guild pick up this bed if you do replace it so we can put it back when you’re done with the house.
“Now let’s go check out the guest bedroom. That way we can move on to the last house.”
Courtney, “We haven’t asked yet, but what is the standard rate?”
Delfus frowns, “I figured you’d know already? It’s called ‘the standard rate’ for a reason. If this guild had a different rate, it would have been noted.”
Courtney shrugs, “We have been in the expansion zone, homesteading and what not.”
Delfus freezes and then turns just his head to face them, “The expansion zone?”
Courtney nods, “Yep, the Deep Wilds.”
Delfus opens his mouth, closes it, opens it again, and stammers out, “Okay, fair enough.
“You do, you do have money, right?”
Courtney, “Of course. Gold isn’t just useful here. We’re travellers and we can use it at home as well.”
Delfus nods his head, “Yes. Fair. Yes, yes. So, uh, the standard rate is 200 gold a week or 500 gold a month, with a minimum of a month for the first period, paid upfront.”
Courtney nods, “Reasonable enough. Now let’s check out the guest room.”
Satisfied and a little worried, Delfus shows them the guest room, which is a third the size and doesn’t even have a closet. Instead, there is a wardrobe pushed into the corner. Mind you, it is a very nice wardrobe, but it definitely has nowhere near the space of a closet. Not that Jason minds. He doesn’t exactly have that many changes of clothes.
Delfus, “Now, if we head back out into the living room, we can access the roof. Follow me.”
Delfus leads them out of the room and to the back wall. “Now, if you look up on the ceiling, you’ll notice a brass ring in the ceiling. This hook over here.” And he grabs a brass hook attached to a long wooden pole.
Delfus raises the hook up to hook the ring, “Can grab the ring and then you pull down.” Which he does revealing a tight spiral staircase that folds out from the ceiling.
Jason whistles, “That’s some nice engineering!”
Courtney nods, “Quality carpentry.”
Delfus shrugs, “Nah, I’m pretty sure they magiced this up. Honestly, a bit of a tight fit as well. Though you all seem capable of climbing it, so let’s head up! Supposedly, it’s a lovely roof.”
The three share a look as he climbs ahead of them. They didn’t really want to get him in trouble, but you don’t put down a place you’re trying to sell like that. Oh, sure, you tell people when there are actual problems, but pointing out things you simply don’t like? Well, that’s a bit out of line. Though they don’t linger in the living room and follow him up to the roof.
Which is quite lovely!
Around them is basically a yard edged with gardens. Admittedly, the gardens are more decorative than functional, which helps with the aesthetics, but doesn’t do much else. They aren’t even planted with herbs! An absolute waste in Jason’s opinion.
So he gestures at them, “Who takes care of them?”
Delfus shrugs, “I guess you do if you rent the place. Oh, the guild mages handle the bamboo wall on a monthly basis and there are no options for it. Though unlike the last place, this is purely maintenance and more like an apartment replacing a broken roof tile.”
Jason, “So I could replant the gardens?”
Delfus rolls his eyes, “Oh sure, no problem on our end. The plants here are more used because they’re cheap and easy to grow with magic since they don’t have anything going on with them. No need to worry if a fast-growing cycle ruins the medicinal properties or makes the plant less filling. They look pretty!
“Pretty useless.”
Jason sighs, “Well, this place seems nice enough, but I guess we really should check out number three before making any final decisions.”
Rosha shakes her head, “No, I like this place. I say we take it.”
Courtney frowns, “Are you sure?”
Rosha nods, “The location is fine, the rooms are pleasant, the kitchen looks sufficient, and this roof will work for our training.”
Jason shrugs, “I’m good with this place. If you want to stick with it, we can stick with it.”
Delfus, “Well, the next place seems pretty swank! We should probably go and take a look, just in case. I’m just the guide, so I guess it isn’t my place as long as you do rent a place, but what’s the harm?”
Rosha snorts, “Nah, we’ll take the place. Let’s see the paperwork and sign some documents.”
Delfus, “Not even heading back to the Guild to confirm the details?”
Rosha, “We know the details. Paperwork. Now.”
