General Progress: I have started work on excellent cadavers. Basically expanding the outline I had created for it a few months ago. I’ve had more time to sit with these characters and really get to find out their voices. Especially Luce’s.
Rewriting: more like adding actually. I want to add more moments for Luce’s to show their spoiled and frankly out of touch personality. I want to do that be expanding one flashback, the office scene with their father and adding another one, their birthday.
Curated stuff
Movies/TV shows
Memories of murder: by Bong Joon Ho, it’s a 2003 film set in the late 80s about a real true crime serial killer case in South Korea that was still under investigation at the time. It’s so beautifully shot and really does a good job of understanding the reason why such a case might’ve not been handled better due to the sociopolitical climate. There was nothing I disliked.
Murdaugh – death in the family: it’s a 2025 limited series about the real true crime case of the Murdaugh dynasty. It’s probably the biggest case of the 2020s. It’s about how a dynasty of family lawyers got away with so much crime for 100 years or so and how it eventually came crumbling down with a double homocide. I didn’t like how they omitted a few things to garner sympathy for one of the sons who was at fault for another crime.
Books
The Bible: yeah I’ve been in the process of reading this. It’s slow going because the prose are drier than unmoisturized skin in the winter. It has so many trigger warnings but somehow you don’t feel much when reading about it because it’s said so clinically and emotionless? I can’t really critique this very controversial book.
The Odyssey: this ties into another thing down below. So I’ve read excerpts from it and I’ve read the Iliad in its entirety. Most people think it’s just an adventure book and that’s it but there are themes and an internal character journey Odysseus goes through. I can’t critique it either because I’m too biased I would defend any shortcomings since I study classics
Music
I’ve been obsessively listening to Epic: the musical’s entire soundtrack. Omg. I love it. Like it isn’t a perfect adaption of the odyssey but it clearly respects its source material. The songs are catchy. The character development of Odysseus is believable and makes sense for the brutal world he lives in. HIGHLY recommend even if you’re not into the Ancient Greek world. The songs can stand on their own.
Sneak peak: Excellent Cadavers
You flash the diamond encrusted watch, this way and that way. You could almost jump with excitement. Of course, your dad would gift you this. You couldn’t believe you ever doubted. So what if you failed a class and got suspended for skipping school? Those things don’t matter. You’re Luce {last name}. Your name is the only thing that matters.
At the end of the day, you’re still the greatest son/daughter/child your pa and ma could’ve asked for. You jump up and throw your arms around them. “Thank you!” You say excitedly.
Your pa pats you on the head. “Anything for you, Tesoro.”
You grin widely and lean back, “so where are my other presents? I can’t only have one. Last year I got three and this year I should get four. You promised.”
Your ma and pa exchange glances.
