"Drawing the Landscape" - Workshop Description:
Step into the immersive world of classical landscape drawing in this comprehensive workshop, where each session focuses on the distinctive style of a different landscape master. Every lesson features a live sketching demonstration, using one of the artist’s paintings as a reference. By deconstructing their finished works, we’ll attempt to "turn back time" and reverse-engineer the painting, using a collection of the artist's drawings to hypothesize what the original sketch may have looked like. This method allows us to closely analyze how key drawing elements were likely translated into paint, revealing the artist’s thought process, compositional decisions, and technical approach.
Through this hands-on approach, participants will not only sharpen their technical drawing skills but also develop a deeper, more critical understanding of landscape art. You’ll learn to see beyond the surface, grasping how these masters constructed their scenes from the ground up. Each week will introduce fresh techniques and artistic perspectives, expanding your repertoire of classical landscape drawing styles and enriching your artistic practice.
Special feedback session:
This workshop will also offer a special feedback session! Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to submit the drawings they create during the lessons by posting them to our Patreon chat. On the last day of the workshop these drawings will be critiqued and each student will receive personally tailored feedback from me. This session will provide invaluable guidance to help you refine your technique, improve your understanding, and make real progress in your landscape drawing practice.
