Helloww everyone!! I will soon be switching from "1st of the month subscriptions" to "Billing Subscription".
I am currently still using the old Patreon subscription method which charges on the first of each month but I am planning to change it into a Billing Subscription Method which charges 30 days after your subscription started instead of the first of every month.
Why I was still using the 1st of the month subscription:
When I started using Patreon many years ago it was the only option available, so I built my entire reward system and workflow around it. Polls, updates, animation releases and password change were all built around a monthly schedule. My entire reward system was built to work around it so making the switch once this new method was introduced was really hard. As things progressed, so did the way I work so switching is now more flexible, all the while reward structure remains the same.
Why I'm planning to change it to billing subscription:
It started when I realised that nowadays, especially new users, are used to billing subscriptions so sometimes they pledge at the end of the month giving them only a few days of access or less. So this may create many awkward situations where people get charged twice.
Despite being pushed forward twice and Patreon still trying to push forward this mandatory change, the billing subscription method sooner or later will become mandatory on November this year or next from what I'm understanding.
If you subscribed after the polls are over, your pledge lasts long enough for you to vote on the next poll which is quite nice.
Especially in the last few months with the longer animations, it becomes hard to release the poll animation before the end of the month. Animations made in the second half of the month takes time to get voiced and are delivered around the last few days of the month making it really hard to finish them in time.
This way I will be able to be less constricted into a monthly schedule and just focus on making animation after animation and the releases won't be all delivered at the end of the month but more spread across it.
So basically I think it would be nice both for you and me to switch to a billing subscription, more so with the switch being mandatory in the future. Of course tho, let me know what do you think and for any question just ask here in the comments! :D
