Beth is taking the kids to her parents' for the weekend, leaving me to watch anime with friends, do a couple of household projects, and, of course, work on Deep Dive redlines until my eyes water.
On this initial pass, I only have the Standing 10 conspiracies left, but they tend to be epic beasts. When things work, they're absurd and terrifying and beautiful. When they don't, they're a huge pain in the ass to fix (looking at you, Fahr Colonies).
The Minnesota State Fair was about what I expected. Large crowds, seed art, scarecrows as sculpture, young women's faces sculpted out of blocks of butter, local beer flights, and a quesadilla made from Tandoori chicken and naan (simultaneously delicious and confusing, so I guess that makes it fair fare).
The Indigo Girls + Melissa Etheridge concert was a lot of fun. Indigo Girls I know fairly well, although they had some newer songs I couldn't sing along with (I absolutely need to get my hands on Laramie, which was both unfamiliar and fantastic). I was genuinely surprised by Etheridge, though. This was one of those musicians who were just sort of part of the background music of my teenage years (kinda catchy lyrics but nothing that ever really grabbed me), but seeing her play live, I was really impressed with her instrumental skill. Live music, done well, is an entirely different experience than recorded music, and she seriously killed it.
Aside from that, it was a week full of back-to-school events, so my media consumption has been way down. Our Thursday night TV group left off with the last episode of What We Do in the Shadows unwatched (next week, though!), and the question of what we watch next as yet unanswered (although we're leaning towards the third season of Yellow Jackets or maybe Foundation).
Given the plan for this weekend and the likely completion of a series on Thursday, I'm sure to have more to talk about next week. For now, writing!
