Standup - Weeks 71 & 72

DESCRIPTION

("stand-up" is a term I borrowed from software dev circles - this is a short report on what I've been doing and what I'm planning, intended to keep my supporters aggressively up-to-date. This is not a typical dev blog post.)

Cover image(s): I always planned for the intro to actually visually depict the line "the center of the room now also contains all of my earthly belongings, tossed into a pile without much ceremony" Frim speaks on the first day - and distribute it across the scene as clutter as the player explores the study for the first time in the intro. It's a small detail, but it's always bothered me that it was missing and I didn't get around to it.

The Ukraine conflict is still ongoing. I'm still doing my best to help and I still urge you to help if you can. 🇺🇦

Remember all of the times I tell you that there wouldn't be anything interesting to say in daily breakdown? Well, it's true again this time, but I kept proper notes on what I'm doing so you're still going to have to suffer through it cuz I already did the work. :D

I probably wont have a daily breakdown in the next standup.

TL;DR:

Things I got done over the last two weeks: Dev plan, dev plan, dev plan.

  • Experimented with having the entire existing story laid out as a single linear VN. This isn't what I want from the game, I did want the exercise of laying it out to know why I don't want it from the game, and also to have a very clear overview of the existing stories.
  • Spent FOUR DAYS planning out a progression system that is completely different from the current one before I realized that it is, design-wise, a dead end. Which is ultimately fine, it's sort of how this always goes anyway, but I can let myself be a little bit frustrated. I took it as a lesson and refocused my efforts going forward accordingly.
  • Got started on The Great Flowchart, which is a high-level overview of all choices the player can take. This is going to be the most important design document going forward. It gives me a very clear overview of where the design is going to end up, which allows me to better plan the steps to get to it. I've been laying out existing and planned content in The Great Flowchart and experimenting with how progression through all of it works.
  • Did some other small stuff here-and-there, programming-and-illustration-wise, but only a bit, .

Things I want to get next: Dev plan, dev plan, dev plan.
