Hello, it's Seth! Right now I'm making a post to tell you what Secret Base is up to on Patreon. The image above, which I think I sold 100% accurately in the title, comes from something Ryan and I are making. I'm not sure how secretive I ought to be about that thing at this point, but I can say that it is THE video project I've wanted to do for a long time, it will be quite substantial, and it will debut exclusively for Patreon subscribers in mid-March. We haven't thought of a title for it yet. It's about basketball.
Anyway, I think my job here is to tell you what you may have missed in January and what's coming in February, so let's do that!
From January:
Episode 3 of The History of Charging the Mound inducted a new character into the Jon Bois Extended Universe: Bruce Kison, a big lanky boy who started a ton of shit.
Clara's quest to create her own version of The Breaks of the Game and/or make the rest of us eligible for SAG cards continued with the latest on the Dynamo-Spangler beef. If you don't know what I'm talking about: Clara Morris invented an entire basketball team with its own lore for a fictional multimedia project. It's incredibly fun and absurd.
Joe told me and Will about Terry Bradshaw's longstanding scorn for John Elway, which I had never known about, and which led both of us to be like "wait dude, this should probably be a Beef History." So if you want to hear Joe tell a fun story AND watch Will and I switch into manager mode in real time, there ya go. A lot of times, our Patreon videos comprise larks and anecdotes we couldn't fit into our YouTube videos. This is, like, the opposite of that?
Will had some sort of violent fever dream about big angry men fighting each other in an ice rink and Clara and I listened patiently to his rantings until the authorities arrived.
Wanna know what paid subscribers can look forward to in February? Well, you've arrived at that section of the newsletter, so simply stop reading this line and start reading the next one:
Jon's got episode 4 of Charging the Mound coming up soon. I actually don't remember who it's about but during our last production meeting Jon explained that he'd done some research to try and find newspaper records of a person being named "Jack Shit." I would argue he found a funnier name that that in the process. I don't know if that's in the episode or not.
Alex is writing a Dorktown column about someone he believes should be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It's not any of the Spice Girls, nor is it some sort of lizard. It's someone else.
It says on the schedule that Will's gonnna do something about Lake Placid? I assume that means he's gonna talk about the Winter Olympics. Not the movie. What the hell was that movie? I don't think I ever actually saw it. There's a grouchy crocodile in the lake? That felt like such a huge movie when it came out but I think that's because I was 10 and not allowed to see it. I'll ask Will about this during his Olympics thing. I guess it's wrong of me to assume Will is gonna invite me to be a guest in that video, but I hope so. I can't talk to him unless it's content. I do so many video calls with Will that the other day I was walking around holding my laptop and my son asked "where's Will"? True story.
That's all publishing-wise, but I'm happy to answer any other questions you might have.
Oh no, I fucked up the formatting and I can't get out of the bulleted list to conclude this post in a non-indented way. The conclusion is gonna have to be part of the list. Uhhh bye! Farewell! Fuck.
How about now? No. Shit. I give up.
