Hello! Here is an ad-free version of a Big Deal about the Wizards trading Chris Webber for a past-his-prime Mitch Richmond. A move that plunged the Wizards into years and years of nearly unwatchable basketball, while elevating the Kings to the WCF. Also, this is Clara, born in DC raised in the suburbs, writing to you today.
Something I did not include in this video is a distinct memory from childhood of Mitch Richmond heaving up what would have been a buzzer beater, from well beyond the arc... but there were like 30 seconds left in the game. And he missed. And my reaction was "not again!" Now, I don't remember any other specific instances of him throwing up a "buzzer beater" way too early, but I do remember feeling the frustration of, "he's doing this dumb thing again!"
It's a visual memory. I don't remember how old I was, I don't remember the game, but I was in my living room. The Wizards were in white.I didn't include it in the video because I couldn't exactly prove that it happened. I set out to prove it, but I had to stop. I didn't like what the research was doing to me.
Combing through large swaths of losses was a not blood-boiling experience, but it was sort of a blood-simmering experience. Kinda the opposite of meditation. So I cut that research short, for my health.
