Aegir, once the proud brother of the High King and uncle to Rowena, was a pillar of strength and leadership among the Kal’dren. In his youth, he was the stronger, more formidable of the two royal siblings, a natural leader, a fearsome warrior, and deeply respected by his people.
Aegir’s heart belonged to Mildred, Champion of The Great Hunt and the pride of their clan. For years, he and his brother Rolf were inseparable, hunting, fighting, and sharing in every victory. Their bond only began to unravel when both fell for Mildred during adolescence. Together, Aegir and Rolf dethroned Mildred in the legendary Hunt, tying for the kill of a monstrous beast. Both brothers had hoped that this hunt would result in a deepened relationship with Mildred, but unfortunately for Aegir, Rolf was quicker (likely unintentionally) to act. In a gesture of teasing affection, Rolf gifted Mildred a fur cloak from the creature, both a trophy and a token of budding love. Aegir crafted a small keepsake from the beast’s bones, but seeing the growing relationship of Rolf and Mildred, never gave it away… keeping it now as a bittersweet memento.
When Mildred chose Rolf over him, Aegir’s heartbreak festered, eroding his sense of duty and leaving him embittered towards his family, his people, and the endless war with the demons. Disillusioned and broken, Aegir sought a way out of the perpetual struggle, a path that ultimately led him into the arms of Bothria.
