I saw your comments about Angels demos and decided to dig back through the Crywolf email account and try to find something. This one survived because I had sent it to Kai, a singer songwriter I met through Adventure Club. She had hit me up about doing a collaboration together after hearing Ghosts.
It didn't work out because this track... sucks. I mean you guys can form your own opinions about it, but I am certainly not proud to show this to the world.
It's kind of in the same category as the last demo, Undertow. It has cool enough production (for the time, 2012 or so), but it just doesn't have that... "thing." Whatever that is. It just feels thin. There's no real emotion in it. It also ends with a tagline before the drop, which I HATE. The desire for cool drop taglines is one of the main reasons I never collaborated with almost any pop-EDM people.
Okay, that might be an oversimplification, because a number of ANTAGONIZER tracks have drop taglines. But it is very, very difficult to write in that style and make it good (in my estimation about what "good" is.). If you can think of something like "From the dust I made you, now return" or "I AM THE KNIFE" to scream right before a drop, that works. But that's rarely how it shakes out. It's usually something infinitely more cringe like "Girl make me go insane."
You know what, the more I listen to this track the more I think I might cancel this post and find something else. I really don't like this song.
Then again, t's helpful for any of you who are artists to hear this kind of thing. It's so important to realize that deep inspiration doesn't strike every time, because if you don't, you can easily end up judging yourself every time you write something bad. You have to write and write and work on building things out, but then also have the artistic integrity to trash something no matter how much work you've put into it.
