DEMO - Nothing
1 / 4
DESCRIPTION

This demo from Skeletons is one of those tracks that sounds a little subdued in the demo, but would definitely have turned into something enormous. Sometimes I'm working so quickly that I don't bother to get good recordings of anything or beef production up - I'm just recording a framework, enough for my future self to understand exactly how to take it to the next level.

I think this one has some really great moments. The shift from the set up; nothingness, frozenness, stuck in a static world, to the active change "So how could I explain the feeling of something burrowing through my shell, when you told me you were mine?" has a lot of potency. If I had built this demo out I would have leaned into that more. Extending the first theme for a while to really communicate that stuck-ness, that shutdown state. Then when the first line for the chorus came in it would have this immense energy and feeling of hope.

If the emotion from a demo comes from some sort of pivot point, some kind of change or something that subverts your expectations, you really want to build up the first state well so that shift has weight emotionally.

I didn't trash this for any particular reason, I think it could have been built out into a great track, it just didn't have quite as much promise and wasn't quite as unique as Quantum Immortality, Fuse, Lemniscate, etc.
