DEMO - PHANERON

DESCRIPTION

I always liked this one a lot, it was going to get reworked and used for the original version of the album that ended up becoming Widow. The guy who did the mixing for M83 was actually going to work on it before I pivoted in a completely different direction.

The production on it right now would have just been to communicate the general aesthetic palette -- I definitely would have replaced the percussion (obviously) and probably taken the compositional journey in a more dynamic direction. I really dig the contextual switchup halfway through.

I like the verses and chorus, though it still feels like it represents an older version of my writing; one that relied a bit more on melodic catchiness and emotional sentiments that are generous with their accessibility, versus trying to capture complex and nuanced emotional expression that doesn't necessarily hold the audience's hand and beckon them into understanding.

LYRICS:

Feel my lungs breathing in your pollenLooking for the spark in your criesEmpty and forgottenWill you ever feel like you’re home?

A solemn voiceA chorus for the fallenOnce more

I saw your color as it fadedYou were begging to be foundLonely irises, so dialatedDesperate and loud

Without gravity, suspendedScreaming out without a soundWe were tender, broken, lascerated, rising from the ground

We were coming up for airWe were coming up for airWe were coming up for airWe were coming up for air
