DESCRIPTION

We've now updated the bookmarklet to improve compatibility with more websites. We've also added instructions for adding and using the bookmarklet on Android devices.

If you installed our bookmarklet when we posted about it before, we suggest updating it to to use the new code (start at the "Edit the bookmark" stage of the instructions).

To load the instructions on your phone, you might find typing in this shorter URL more convenient: tinyurl.com/y3ujqw5t

In addition, you can watch videos showing you how to add and use the bookmarklet on iOS and Android devices:

Here are some pros and cons of the bookmarklet method compared to our dedicated iPhone/Android app:

Bookmarklet pros

Content more accessible, especially those which you pay to access (paywalled sites)

Preview visible before sending

Bookmarklet cons

Only accessible from within the browser - if you use a news app for example, you'll have to tell it to open the article in Safari/Chrome and then use the bookmarklet from there.

Certain sites will still work better with the app, but we'll be bringing that method of retrieval to version 2 soon too, so you'll soon be able to switch between methods if an extracted article doesn't look right.

You can of course use both the bookmarklet and the app on your phone. So feel free to experiment and see which produces better results for the sites that you read.

Thanks to all of you who gave us feedback on the previous bookmarklet update. It's very much appreciated. Do let us know if you have any trouble with this update.

More soon...
