As part of our ongoing work to improve the way articles are processed in Push to Kindle, we've recently started applying additional filters when cleaning up articles. These filters are intended to target nonessential elements that are increasingly placed within the article content, often between paragraphs. These include things like newsletter signup blocks, social media sharing buttons, and advertisements.
Here's the kind of thing we're talking about:
When you enable the Reader view in Firefox or Safari on such an article, what you'll often get is something like this:
That's a screenshot from Firefox's Reader view, but it's often been similar in Push to Kindle too. With the recent change we've made to our article extractor, we're now applying filters to remove such elements from the final article. We've written more about this on our main blog, so if you'd like to learn more please do read that post.
We'd love to get feedback on this additional cleaning from Push to Kindle users, especially if you're still noticing annoyances like the above in the articles that you read. It would help us improve the filters we use.
So if you're still seeing newsletter signup forms, ads, or social media buttons in the articles you send, please let us know either in the comments here or via email at [email protected].
And as always, we very much appreciate your continued support of Push to Kindle development.
