First of all, apologies for the lack of news again (this is becoming the traditional blog greeting!)
I've been going through some stressful days, swamped with work and other personal issues.
Today I bring news, which I'm not sure whether to call good or bad.
Do you remember I mentioned that I was going to start working on a commercial project? Well, it’s not going to happen in the end.I can't give many details, but the company decided at the last minute that the cost versus estimated sales was not going to compensate. After hearing the news, I really felt... strange. It’s true that the game was small and not well-known, but it was a chance to publish a commercial hack. So on that side, I felt disappointed.
On the other hand, I felt relieved somehow. Because that meant I am not going to spend the rest of the summer locked up at home working on the hack.
The thing is, the news came unexpectedly and since then, I haven't been in the mood of working on anything related to Game Boy. I guess my brain needed to process the news and disconnect a bit.
So I decided to focus on other projects not directly related to Game Boy but still in ROM hacking and development in general.
It's been a year since I restarted the development of Rom Patcher JS. The reason was that I never felt proud of the code, it was a total mess. The new version has been rewritten from scratch, applying all my web development knowledge acquired in recent years. The code is more structured and documented, it should be more portable and will ease the process of embedding in websites. It will also come with small UI tweaks.
On the other hand, I am also finishing another tool. It’s my own GBC graphics converter. While developing my hacks and translations, I never found a tool that suited my needs for graphics conversion, so I made my own. And I'm not exaggerating, it really helped to speed up development.I don't know if it will be helpful for other developers or hacker, but releasing it won't hurt (and what the heck, it’s part of my portfolio!).
I hope to have both tools ready in about two or three weeks. I will then resume the GBC hacks.
In the meantime, in case you missed it, I remind you that we released the first trailer for Donkey Kong DX at last :-) Hope you enjoyed this short sneak peek.
As always, thank you all for your support!
PS: It seems that this place has become my spot to vent. Let's see if I can bring news again soon.
