[Third Person Pov]

Garth scanned the devastated chamber with growing concern, kicking at a chunk of broken gear near his foot. “What do we do now? If all the gears are damaged like this, it’s going to be nearly impossible to open the path to our next clue.”

“Not necessarily…” Arthur muttered thoughtfully. He rubbed the stubble on his chin as he studied the mechanisms that had been hidden behind the shattered wall. Clear shadows and precise outlines marked where each gear once belonged, interconnected with other components in an intricate system.

“What did you have in mind?” Mera asked, eyeing the fallen, mangled gears scattered across the floor. “These aren’t exactly usable anymore.”

Arthur pulled his trident free from the wall with a determined yank. “We do something I like to call… team effort,” he declared with a confident grin. He raised the trident high, summoning a swirling sphere of water that materialized in the air. As he spun it faster, the orb grew larger, shimmering with power.

“Oh, I get it,” Mera said, her lips curving into a matching grin. Her eyes began to glow with a brilliant aquatic blue as she channeled her magical abilities.

She reached out with her hydrokinesis, seizing control of the watery sphere. With graceful precision, she guided the liquid toward the shadowy imprint on the wall where a large gear once sat. The water obeyed her will, stretching and molding itself into the exact shape and teeth of the missing gear. Once the form was perfect, she held it firmly in place and glanced toward Garth.

“Garth, want to do the honors of freezing it in place?”

“Oh boy, do I!” he replied eagerly. He extended both pointer fingers forward. A tiny, intense pinpoint of cold magic bloomed between them, crackling with icy energy. With a quick flick of his wrist, he released it. On contact, the water construct instantly solidified into solid, gleaming ice, locking perfectly into the mechanism.

From there, Arthur and Mera worked in seamless tandem. Arthur summoned more water while Mera expertly shaped each new gear and replacement part to match the ancient outlines. Garth followed up every time, guiding his hands with focused intensity and unleashing precise shots of ice magic to freeze the constructs solid. The trio moved like a well-oiled machine, their powers complementing one another beautifully.

Garth finally brought his fingers close to his mouth and blew across them with a satisfied smirk, as if cooling them after hard work.

“And now for the deciding factor,” Arthur announced. He twirled his trident dramatically before stabbing it back into the central slot on the wall. With careful, measured strength, he began rotating the newly formed gears. They groaned in protest at first, ice flaking off in glittering shards, but they slowly started to spin.

Garth watched with bated breath, his eyes fixed on the center of the chamber. The massive section of floor began to part little by little, stone grinding against stone as the mechanism awakened.

Arthur kept turning the trident until a deep, satisfying click echoed through the ruins. The gears locked into their final position. The Atlantean trio exchanged excited glances before making their way over to the newly revealed opening.

“It’s a staircase…” Mera observed, peering down into the spiraling formation of ancient steps that descended into darkness.

“Well, there’s only one way to find out where it leads,” Arthur said without hesitation. He stepped forward and began climbing down confidently. Mera and Garth shared a quick shrug and a smile before following him into the depths.

The further they descended, the heavier the air became. Arthur’s boots crunched over old bones and loose stones that littered the steps. The sound echoed eerily in the narrow passage.

“It looks like a battle took place down here,” Mera said quietly, her voice laced with solemn respect. She paused beside a cluster of skeletons still clad in weathered armor, their final poses frozen in time as silent witnesses to whatever violent clash had occurred in these forgotten halls long ago.

Arthur ran his hand slowly over the cold stone wall, tracing a deep, savage claw mark gouged into its surface. His eyes narrowed as he spotted a crumbled skeleton in the distance, still clutching a broken weapon. “It seems these people found refuge here, but they were still hunted down. The battle wiped them all out.”

“They died guarding something,” Mera said solemnly. She knelt beside two armored skeletons leaning against a massive reinforced door, their final stance one of defiance even in death.

“It seems like a treasury,” Arthur observed, examining the heavy, ornate door with its intricate Atlantean seals.

“Treasure?” Garth’s eyes lit up with boyish excitement. “Then let’s see what was so important that they gave their lives protecting it!”

Arthur and Mera exchanged an amused glance as Garth eagerly pressed himself against the door, shoving with all his might. His face reddened with effort, but the ancient door refused to budge even an inch.

After a few moments of futile struggling, Garth leaned back, panting heavily. He shot the two adults a pleading look. “Well, a little help here would be lovely and really appreciated!”

Arthur chuckled warmly and stepped forward. He aimed the prongs of his trident and wedged them firmly into the narrow gap between the door and its frame. Mera joined him on the other side. Together, they pushed hard against the trident. With a loud, protesting groan of metal and stone, the door slowly scraped open. A cascade of dust and pebbles rained down around them as the long-sealed vault finally yielded.

Garth didn’t waste a second. He darted inside excitedly, rushing through the chamber with boundless energy. Arthur and Mera followed at a more measured pace, taking in the sight. The vault was filled with glittering piles of gold coins, ornate jewelry, and ancient treasures that sparkled even in the dim light.

While Garth ran around everywhere, scooping up handfuls of riches with glee, Arthur followed the clear ceremonial path laid out on the floor. The further they walked, the quieter the vault became. At the very end of the chamber, Arthur came to a sudden stop, his eyes widening in awe.

Floating before him inside a shimmering magical barrier was a mannequin. In one hand it held a magnificent golden trident, and in the other, a sealed canister. But Arthur’s gaze was locked on the armor adorning the mannequin — a stunning set of orange and green battle armor, forged for both a warrior and a king.

Mera stepped closer, studying it with deep interest. “It looks like Orichalcum armor and trident… How fascinating. From the craftsmanship, it must have been their last and most treasured creation.”

Arthur began chuckling softly, a sound that only deepened Mera’s confusion as he stepped forward.

The moment his foot crossed an invisible threshold, a brilliant golden light ignited beneath him. A gentle wave of warm, radiant energy rippled from the ground, washing over him from head to toe. The magical barrier surrounding the mannequin began to dissolve, burning away in golden sparks.

A single golden scale broke free from the armor’s chest plate and flew straight to Arthur, settling perfectly over his own chest. More followed — dozens of shimmering scales ripped themselves free from the mannequin and clung to him, forming a magnificent suit of living armor. The orange and green scales climbed up his body, arranging themselves elegantly across his torso and shoulders, even forming delicate gill-like patterns near his neck.

Arthur looked down in wonder as green gauntlets encased his hands. When he clenched his fists experimentally, sharp bladed fins extended with a satisfying shing.

From across the vault came Garth’s joyful laughter, echoing loudly as he ran toward them with arms full of jewelry and gold coins spilling from his grasp, his feet pattering rapidly across the marble floor.

He slowed as he approached Arthur, eyes widening in pure awe. Arthur stood tall, now fully clad in the legendary Orichalcum armor, the golden trident resting confidently in his grip.

“How cool~” Garth muttered breathlessly, his eyes shimmering with wonder and admiration. In that moment, he could almost picture it — a massive wave rising behind Arthur, the once and future King standing in all his glory, ready to lead Atlantis into a new era.
