[Third Person Pov]

“Well, first of all… how are the girls doing?” Danny asked with genuine concern, watching as Death slowly paced around the basement room.

She carefully leaned her umbrella against the desk, making sure it wouldn’t fall, before answering. “As much as you would expect from such violent deaths,” Death replied, her tone solemn and her eyes reflecting a deep melancholy. “They’re traumatized, those poor things. They’re angry. They’re sad. They’re filled with regret for the futures that were stolen from them.”

“I see…” Danny said quietly, his face and voice heavy with sorrow. He didn’t have many words to offer.

Death gave him a look of gentle understanding and offered a reassuring smile. “They’re also grateful, you know. To you and your friends. You put an end to the nightmare. Because of what the three of you did, they’ll be able to pass on a little more peacefully now.”

Danny stared down at the floor for a moment, his lips curling into a soft, bittersweet half-smile. “Well, I certainly hope the next life treats them much more kindly than this one did.”

“As do I, Danny boy. As do I,” Death said warmly. She grabbed one of the spinning office chairs, hopped onto it with her knees tucked under her, and began twirling lazily.

After a few spins, she pointed toward the thermos still clutched tightly in Danny’s hands. “I take it your next question has to do with what’s inside that thing, doesn’t it?”

“It does…” Danny admitted, glancing down at the thermos with a troubled expression. He tightened his grip on it. “I just can’t wrap my head around it no matter how hard I try. Why would any ghost — of any capacity — want to help someone as vile as the Mad Hatter? What did this ghost in particular hope to achieve by siding with him?”

“I think you already know the answer, Danny,” Death said gently, “but you’re having trouble accepting it.” She beckoned him closer and extended her open palm.

Danny handed her the thermos. With a graceful swirl of her fingers, Death popped it open and carefully extracted the Cheshire Cat. She waved her hand in a slow, guiding motion, and the spectral cat followed obediently. With a gentle boop on its nose, the layers of illusion around its body died off slowly, revealing its true form — a small, ordinary-looking green house cat.

“It wanted to be loved,” Death said softly, caressing the cat’s face with tender affection. “It wanted to be appreciated.”

“But by the Mad Hatter?” Danny grumbled, clearly frustrated. “There are better people out there in the world who would have been able to love it more properly.” He reached out a cautious hand to pet the cat, only for it to hiss violently and bare its teeth at him.

Death chuckled softly, a warm and knowing smile spreading across her face as she continued to stroke the ghostly feline.

“Danny, just as we can’t always choose who we fall in love with… we can’t always choose whose love we long for in return. When someone believes another person is worth everything, there’s almost no limit to what they’ll endure or sacrifice just for a chance to earn their affection… or even a single moment of their attention.” She glanced at him meaningfully. “I don’t think I need to spell out who else I’m referencing here, do I?”

Danny’s expression stiffened into an awkward grin as he let out a faint chuckle. “No… you don’t.”

“Jervis Tetch just so happened to be the first person to show this little guy affection,” Death explained as she brought the spectral cat closer, cradling it gently like a baby while scratching its belly affectionately. “Even if it was only because he believed the little guy to be a part of his twisted fantasy.”

“He is the amalgamation of all the animals that died while resenting their reality — those who, in their final moments, wished things could have been different,” Death continued, smiling softly as she heard the cat begin to purr contentedly in her arms.

“Okay, I suppose that clears some things up… but that just leaves me with even more questions,” Danny said, scratching the back of his head in mild frustration. “Just what is the Ghost Zone really? And I don’t mean the basic answer about it being an interdimensional plane where ghosts reside.”

Death let out an amused, melodic laugh. “But Danny, that is literally what it is…” She paused, tilting her head with a knowing smile. “But I suppose I know exactly what you’re really trying to ask here.”

She turned her head side to side for a moment, clearly debating something internally, before shrugging her shoulders with a carefree grin. “Oh, what the heck. If we’re going to work together in the future, it’s best if I clear some things up for you now.”

Death hopped off the spinning chair, grabbed her umbrella, and settled the small green cat comfortably over her shoulders like a living scarf. “Follow me, kiddo,” she said, walking confidently toward the Ghost Portal.

She gave the portal a double tap with the handle of her umbrella. Instead of the usual swirling green vortex, the door opened to reveal a brilliant, milky white light that glowed softly and invitingly.

Death smirked as she glanced over her shoulder. “Well? Don’t just stand there gawking. I said follow me.”

“Huh? Oh right, sorry,” Danny replied, snapping out of his stunned trance with an embarrassed flush.

He hesitated for only a second before stepping through after her. The light was so blindingly bright that he had to close his eyes for a moment. When he finally opened them again, he looked around in complete awe and confusion at the vast, white expansive plane that stretched out endlessly in every direction.

Countless white silhouettes, souls, and spectral bodies drifted peacefully through the air. Most of them levitated gently upward, drawn toward a distant, radiant white light that seemed to promise peace and transition.

“Is this…” Danny began, his voice filled with wonder as he slowly turned in place, taking in the breathtaking sight.

“Welcome to the afterlife, Danny,” Death announced with a mischievous grin. “This is the first section of many within my spirit realm — my realm. Can you guess where we are right now?”

“The region of the Just Dead,” Danny answered instinctively, the realization hitting him like a spark of understanding. “This is where the souls of everyone who has just recently died come. This is the first stop.”

“Bingo,” Death smiled, nodding in confirmation.

“Lady Death? Is that really you?” A warm, theatrical male voice suddenly interjected from behind them.

Both Danny and Death turned toward the source. They spotted a grey, bald man wearing a striking red trapeze leotard with a bold letter “D” emblazoned across his chest.

“Boston, how do you do?” Death greeted politely, tipping her hat toward him with a gracious nod.

“Much better now that I’ve been graced by your magnificent presence!” Boston replied theatrically, bowing with great reverence and dramatic flair. “I can’t help but feel more alive already.”

“Oh you, don't you know already that flattery will get you no where with me?” Death said playfully, waving him off. When she noticed Boston’s curious gaze settle on Danny, she decided to make proper introductions.

“Boston, meet Danny Phantom. He’s a little special friend of mine,” Death said, winking in Danny’s direction. Danny, meanwhile, was staring at the newcomer in open wonder. “And Danny, this is Boston Brand, famously known as—”

“The Deadman…” Danny finished for her, his eyes sparkling with pure awe and excitement.

“Hohoho, so you’ve heard of—” Deadman began with a proud grin, puffing out his chest, but he froze mid-sentence as Danny suddenly appeared directly in front of him in a blur of motion.

Danny was holding a pen and notepad, his eyes literally sparkling like stars. “Can I please get your autograph?!”
