Hi everyone,
The possum mob is nearly done for the test build and should release next week. I was hoping to get it done by this month but it turned out longer then expected, due to a more complex design and overall more frames than the salamander mob.
Here's a sneak preview
As for what else is going on next month, I will be starting work on the next enemy 'bunny'. She's concepted on a fusion between both magic and technology which will reflect on her grab attack.
She's very much in the early stages than I would like so it may be a bit longer than the 2 month cycle.
Speaking on months the game has been publicly worked on for 6 months now *yay*. I though now is a good time to reflect on my past progress and the future a little bit, as well as documenting my thoughts.
Most of my planning its revolves around allocating time I need/want to spend on each part of my game to reach its initial goal. My plan looked something like this:
(2 months) Asset ready mob
(1 month) Backgrounds for a zone
(1 month) Other things (Extra character moves for mobs and player character etc)
Looking at my past progress I learnt a few things.
Creating mobs for the most part is straight forward as I generally have an idea ready beforehand. The only issue I see arising is scope creep or in this case perfectionist creep. I've already encountered it creating the possum and it has caused a slight delay. I don't think an extra week or two is a deal breaker but it's something I keep in mind. I plan to catch up some of the time with the mobs in the later areas.
Background art is hard, 1 month is very little time to create what is essentially the mood of your game. To address this I will be making the future zones smaller (zone 1's size might be ok as an introduction). My background art is something I think will keep evolve overtime.
I spent an extra month working on salamander enemy, people were keen on an internal shot so well I decided to give it a... shot. For now I wont introduce internal shots to allll mobs immediately. This is more to do with planning as well as the extra time it takes. I want to have a wide range of scenarios and putting an internal shot on each new enemy might dilute future ideas. I can always add them at a later date when I have a bit of a wider picture of things. But if there is something you want to ask, please feel free to ask me.
I have 4 enemies and 2 zones and the player character's move set to be fleshed out before I reach the games initial goal. I am hoping I can get this done in 12 months.
Cheers,
PastedCement
