After many months, I've finally managed to change the currency from USD to EUR on Patreon, as Apple was blocking it (seriously, **** Apple).
Last year, I switched from EUR to USD because 2/3 of you were paying in USD anyway, which meant you were subject to small conversion fees.
So, why the change now? The USD has become unstable and is declining rapidly. This year alone, it dropped by almost 15% in just a few months, and since all platforms pay out in USD, I've really felt the impact. I need a backup plan, and EUR rates have remained pretty much the same for years, so I'm switching back to EUR.
SubscribeStar and itch.io both still use USD, while Steam uses your local currency, so you have plenty of options. Also, since I didn't want to increase prices for existing patrons on Patreon, I lowered the tiers by around 10% for all current subscribers. I'm hoping you won't feel the change much if you're paying in a non-EUR currency.
As a reminder, nothing has changed on SubscribeStar, so it stays in USD, and with its lower fees, it's also cheaper there. I still prefer Patreon, and both platforms have the same content, but if you want to switch, be my guest.
Thank you for your understanding.EDIT: Since there's some confusion - No, you DON'T have to pay in EUR if you don't want to. You can keep using USD or whatever currency you were using. For example, if you live in the USA and your main currency is USD, you can normally keep using Patreon and paying in USD, and Patreon will convert it to EUR for me, but you will be subject to a small conversion fee (2.5% if I'm not mistaken). And that's it.
