DESCRIPTION

GammaOS Next v1.2.0 is now live for the Anbernic RG Slide, bringing a full Android 14 / LineageOS 21 experience to Anbernic’s slider handheld with all the GammaOS quality-of-life upgrades you’re used to on the T820 family. 🚀

Hey everyone,

The RG Slide has been one of the more “different” T820 devices, and it deserves firmware that leans into that. With this release, the Slide gets the same modern Android 14 base as the RG476H / RG406H / RG406V, plus shaders, GammaEQ UI, performance modes, and a handheld-first UX that actually respects the hardware. 😄

As usual, this build is Patreon-exclusive for now and will go public later.

💥 What’s new in v1.2.0 for RG Slide?

This release is built to make the Slide feel like a small, focused handheld rather than “just another Android phone”:

  • Android 14 / LineageOS 21 base
Cleaner, more responsive system stack, better scheduling, less junk, and a more modern app/runtime environment.

  • Global Shader Pipeline
System-level filters (CRT-style, scaling shaders, etc.) applied at the display pipeline, configurable through a Shader Quick Settings tile. Perfect for turning that Slide screen into a handheld-friendly “mini CRT” or cleaner pixel scaler. 📺✨

  • GammaEQ with full UI
The audio engine is wired into the system with a proper GammaEQ app:

    • Enable/disable EQ

    • Swap presets

    • Save custom configurations

    • Tweak sound without having to poke properties manually
Great if you want to dial in punchy output for handheld play or cloud gaming. 🔊

  • HDMI-friendly behavior (where applicable)
Integration with GammaOS display logic so plugging into external displays plays more nicely with the system, in line with the other T820 devices.

  • All the GammaOS Next handheld QOL improvements

    • Daijisho + RetroArch front-end (BIOS not included) for a console-style launcher

    • Universal button remapping so you can make the Slide controls behave exactly how you like

    • Analog stick calibration for deadzone and range tuning

    • Deep Sleep Mode, performance governors, and a full set of GammaOS Quick Settings tiles

    • Relaxed storage on supported configs so front-ends and emulators can see your games more easily

    • Magisk root baked in on supported images for people who like to go further with customization

No RGB on this device, so the focus is on display, controls, audio, and system behavior.

⚖️ Lite vs Full on RG Slide

Same philosophy as the other T820 releases:

  • Full

    • Includes Google Play Store, Google Play Services, and Google-dependent components

    • Good if you rely heavily on Play Store, Google sync, or GMS-only apps

  • Lite

    • Ships without Google services or Play Store

    • Good if you prefer a clean, focused handheld using sideloading or alternative stores

All the GammaOS-specific features (shaders, GammaEQ UI, performance modes, input stack, etc.) are present in both. The choice is just how “Google-attached” you want your Slide to be.

🧭 Installation

The RG Slide follows the same install pattern as the other T820 devices:

  1. Download GammaOS Next v1.2.0 for RG Slide from the release link above.

  2. Extract all .7z.00x parts together using 7-Zip on Windows.

  3. Follow the T820-family installation guide (RG556 / RG-CUBE / RG406H / RG406V / RG476H / RG Slide):
    https://github.com/TheGammaSqueeze/GammaOSNext/wiki/GammaOS-Next-Installation#anbernic-rg556--rg-cube--rg406h--rg406v--rg476h--rg-slide

Flashing will wipe user data, so back up anything you care about first. 💾

🙏 Thank you

Thank you again for supporting GammaOS on Patreon and letting me keep pushing these devices beyond what stock firmware ever aimed for. With RG476H, RG406H, RG406V, and now RG Slide on Android 14, the T820 lineup is starting to feel like a proper little ecosystem of tuned handhelds instead of a pile of random Android builds. 😅

I’d love to hear:

  • How v1.2.0 feels on your RG Slide day-to-day

  • Which shaders you’re using with the Slide form factor

  • How GammaEQ sounds with your favourite emulators or streaming setups

  • Whether Lite or Full makes more sense for how you use the device

Enjoy the new build and happy sliding. 🎮📱✨
