MUSIC TO MY EARS
For the longest time, I've always wanted to make my own custom skill but I could never tell what mod project would make the most sense for one, until World Tour came along. I'm happy to introduce the Songwriting skill!
There are different ways for sims to level up this skill. They can practice writing lyrics on the PC or by jotting down some notes in a journal (Parenthood or Life and Death Required). You can have your sims create tracks on the computer. Other ways include watching songwriting tutorials online, going to the recording studio and even attending songwriter camps! There are a bunch of other ways to level up this skill but this is just some of the few!
When you reach the highest level, your sims can unlock the Lyrical Genius reward trait! Lyrical Genius sims can expect higher payout when it comes to their songs!
I've also added preferences for Songwriting skill so your sims can Like or Dislike it! And I've added Songwriting as a Club Activity as well (Get Together required)
Pro Tip: Having a high songwriting skill can be beneficial for certain things like for example, higher songwriting increases the amount of tracks you can produce at home or in the studio!
MORE PLATFORMS MORE PROBLEMS
The there are 3 total platforms for your sims to join! Introducing CowTunes, Freezer Bunny Beats & Llamafy!
Each platform has their own unique benefits, membership fees and lore! All 3 will allow songwriters/artists to upload their own projects and connect with other individuals but depending on the platform you're on, the more perks you can potentially unlock. For example, Llamafy users can find it easier to connect with record executives and if you choose to pursue a record deal with Maxis Music, you'll have a higher chance of scoring a deal.
FINALLY INDEPENDENT
One of the things that was requested the most (besides bands) was the ability for sims to become true independent artists who didn't need to rely on the record labels to do things like performing or making albums.
Originally, there were two paths you could follow: Songwriters & Signed Artists. Well now with V2, I'm bringing in a new path for Independent Artists!
Independent Artists in my mind are the bridge between Songwriters and Signed Artists. This new role is similar to any signed artist but with a few exceptions and a lot of challenges! Like with Songwriters, Indie Artists can upload music to any platform and make money and build a fandom. But like Signed Artists, Indie Artists can submit music projects such as Albums on their own behalf! (With a cost of course)
Under the new World Tour App, Indie Artists will have access to the World Tour Panel (Formally known as Independent Artists Panel) and can do things such as perform concerts, record music, even go on tour. What makes them different is that many of these activities will come at a cost to you! Without a label backing them up financially, indie artists will need to foot a lot of the bill upfront and sometimes it might seem more difficult to get certain things done! If you want to submit music to be nominated for an award, there's now a window of time for Independent Artists that will help determine if they get a nomination!
DO WE HAVE A DEAL?
If you want your sims to take their craft to the next level, they can do so by submitting a demo to one of three record labels! (Sending a Demo costs $200 simoleons a piece)
There are 3 Record Labels to choose from:
Depending on the label, there's a chance that your sims may or may not get signed! Dinky Beats is more open to new talent, Maxis Music is extremely strict and New Tastemakers aren't as picky as Maxis Music but still hold higher standards than Dinky Beats!
If your sim is rejected, they'll get a moodlet which will keep them from resubmitting another demo for a few days.
But if they do manage to get signed they'll get a notification and a new trait! Some labels will even give you a sign on bonus too!
They'll also receive Custom Buffs and may feel good or bad about the deal they've just signed!
And if you have my Growing Pains Mod installed, when asking kids what they want to be when they grow up and they select “Rockstar”, if they choose to follow through and decide they want to get signed they may earn this moodlet down below:
ITS IN THE CONTRACT
After securing a record deal your sims will be given a new pop up prompting them to select just how long their contract should last! There are currently 3!
Some options are only available if your sims meet the requirements! (Singing Skill, Fame, Fandom Count, Songwriting Skill, Reputation, Being an Industry Plant or Industry Darling all contribute to having more options)
After selecting a contract you'll be given a visual reminder (i.e. moodlet) telling you just how long you have with your active contract. Once the moodlet expires, so does the contract and you'll get a notification telling you as such! When the contract expires you'll need to go through the process again!
NOTE: Contracts will only affect Sims made AFTER this update! Any pre-existing sims will have their lifetime contracts in tact! Sims before this change can still can contracts but will need to quit their labels first.
SWITCHING SIDES
From Time to Time, depending on certain events, artists may be asked by OTHER labels if they'd like to join them! Obviously you can decline however should you accept the tempting offer, you'll run the risk of the harming any relationship you have with your former label! (Labels talk you know?)
Should you choose to go back to the previous label for any reason (including for the plot) you MIGHT get the cold shoulder so be aware!
LET'S MAKE ART
Making Music is simple and easy to do!
At first, you'll only be able to practice writing your lyrics but when you reach Level 3 Songwriting, sims will be able to actual create and produce music that can be uploaded to music platforms or submitting them to a distributor/label for wide release. Or they're free to attend the recording sessions in the studio (with a payment of course)
How it works is your sims can either create song tracks, which can not only be customized with a song title and synopsis of the song but you can also add a Song Vibe
With each upload, Sims will gain simoleons, fame, fanbase increase, group appeal (Module 1 required) and Music Streams! They'll also get fan reviews after uploading music to a platform and also get official publication review when they've released an album project.
SETTING THE TONE
Something that else that was added along with album creation was the ability to select a vibe for individual tracks! In life, songs can take on many different moods so this idea was to add storytelling for example a song could bring a happy, joyful vibe while another one is more on the angry, vicious vibes.
Once your sims have World Tour File, place it in the world and you'll be able to Select the Vibe:

And any time your sim is around that song/object you'll get a different moodlet for each vibe:
You can also see what type of vibe that's set:
You may have noticed "New Record" well that's because I've added a new record age to the files! So now the records will age over time going from new record to diamond record!
BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU UPLOAD
Uploading music has the possibility to create issues! Exes may come out of the woodworks if they see you've published music and Industry Rivals will finally speak out and call you about some of the "issues"!
There's also a chance your song may get leaked online! (higher chance if you're an independent artist!)
DID YOU FINALIZE IT?
Your Sims will be able to create:
Singles Record (2 Tracks)
Extended Plays or EPs (4 Tracks)
Full Length Albums (12 Tracks)
After your sims have enough tracks in their inventory, they will need to go on the computer to "Finalize Album"
Once you've finalized your album, your sims will get a new object in their inventory: THE BLANK ALBUM
Now you might've noticed that there are some words floating on the album...that's because you can now add a tracklist to your album!
Just click on the object and Rename it:
There's a Character Limit of 1000 I believe! Good enough to have 12 songs easy! I would like to explain that when you hover over your album, it doesn't show ALL of the titles (as you see above) mine only went to 11. Not sure if that's just by design or what have you but the tracklist will still have all the things listed!
And Just Like That you can send your project off to your label if you're a signed artist or a distributor if you're a independent artist.
For Signed Artists, there's a chance your label may reject your album and ask you to try again!
WORLD TOUR PANEL
Whether you're going the independent route or you've scored a record deal, you'll need to know about the World Tour Panel!
Located on your sims phone, the World Tour App offers a central hub of all the inner workings of this mod!
Within the Panel you'll have access to different features such as photoshoots, special events, sending demo music, award shows etc.
Most of the events will have special pop ups where you can earn money, fame, fans and more! Just be careful with the choices you make as they can hurt your career just as much as they can help it!
YOURE ON PROBATION
One of the consequences of bad choices is Probation! There are 3 Tiers of Probation:
Probation Level 1: This is more of a slap on the wrist kind of deal. Sims wont be able access certain things like photoshoots or talk shows. Harmless right?
Probation Level 2: This will sting a bit more as you'll be banned from the WTP for 48 hours AND they wont be able to submit music to the labels at this time.
Probation Level 3: This is the same as the one in V1. 5 Days from being banned from the IAP. Good luck to everyone! BUT there is a twist....there's a chance that your sim can be let go if they get this probation!
If you're looking to ease the probation or wipe the slate clean, have your sims meet with the record executives and there's a chance your sims can either get the probation removed from the record or at the very least reduced (Probation Level 2 or 3 required to reduce).
THE BALL IS NOT IN YOUR COURT
If you thought Probation is bad, then your sims don't understand the pain coming from being blackballed!
Certain events can cause problems for your sims and one of those problems is being blackballed in the music industry!
If this unfortunate result happens, your sim will get a notification + buff:
Not only that but they'll get this trait here:
Artists that are blackballed are effectively banned from the World Tour Panel! Think of this as a reset and sims will lose all their fans, music streams, record deals!
Don't worry this is a RARE occurrence but be careful about the choices you make!
But because I'm not a total monster, I've added a reward (or safety net) for your sims who are looking for a second chance:
360 NOT 180
Artists that have found themselves in a 360 deal were able to go to a court hearing to get their status removed....this has not changed. HOWEVER, what has changed is the fact that sims who win their cases will get a happy moodlet and a notification, alerting you of the good news!
If you'd rather skip the courts and would prefer to handle things outright, you can buyout of your 360 Contract over the Phone!
KEEPING THE LABEL HAPPY
One of the downsides of being a Signed Artist is having a record label to answer to! While under contract, Sims will need to rehearse, go to special events, perform concerts or festivals, go on tour and of course release albums!
Occasionally, the label may contact you and check in to be sure they're getting a return on their investment (aka your sims career)
While going on tour is enough to keep the phone calls on silent, sometimes certain labels may be a bit harder to please and your sims can find themselves forcibly removed from their contracts!
If you find that the music industry is not for your sims, don't panic! All they need to do is go on their phones under the World Tour App and choose to quit label. Provided they're not in any shady deals with their record labels.
Performance Based Scores
Independent & Signed Artists have a hidden score called, Stage Presence. This score will show just how well your sims are doing during performances/tours. Lower scores earn negative moodlets, while higher scores will give positive moodlets.
If you want to increase your score, have sims rehearse, exercise, practice singing (City living required), dance (Get Together Req.) and more.
Not Everyone Fits in the Genre
Artists (Signed or Not) can assign a music genre. Purely for gameplay/storytelling. Just click on your sim and select "Choose Genre".
DAWN OF A NEW ERA
Artists can now enter their own Music Era!
Music Eras add a bit of storytelling for your sims as they can define what kind of artist they want to be! Both Signed & Independent Artists can declare a music era. Simply Click on your sim and choose "Enter Music Era"
You'll be given a pop up with 7 Eras to choose from:
I didn't want to give time limits on eras so you can have an era last as long as you desire! Your sim can only have one era active at a time, so if you want to switch to a new one, you'll have to abandon your current one. You can do so by clicking on your sim and select abandon music era!
Choosing a defined Music Era can affect your sims relationships with fans, fame, reputation and even their record label if they have one! Some will be positive and some can be negative. You may even get calls from your label after entering an era:
Note: Fans and the Label will only react to the new era if your sims Announce it either on their phone or on the computer!
BITTER RIVALS
Not everyone is going to be your friend in this business! Industry Rivals are your sims enemies in this music industry. They can generate over time, added via cheat (Shift + Click) or through pop ups that your sims get while on adventures. You can also approach another sim and accuse them of being an Industry Plant.
Industry Rivals can respond to things your sims choose to do like mention them in the press or can call you after your album was rejected or did poorly.
INDUSTRY DUALITY
Adding a little more spice to your sims gameplay cause why not! There are two optional traits/paths for your musicians to take!
Industry Darling & Industry Plant.
These traits can be found in CAS. They can also be added through gameplay! (Note: Evil & Mean Sims cannot be Industry Darlings and Good Sims cannot be Industry Plant)
Industry Darling:
Industry Plant :
Both have different gameplay as well as interactions! For example, Industry Plants can send information to blogs to get influence their reputation, fame, fan levels and even music streams! Industry Darlings can do things like do Livestreams with Fans or do Meet & Greets.
I mentioned through gameplay, there's a small chance that your sims will get an opportunity to gain either the Industry Darling or Industry Plant trait!
And if you're tired of whichever path you choose you can purchase a reward for 5000 points to get either trait removed!
ALL AROUND THE WORLD
You can't have a World Tour mod without going on tour, now can you? Sims can choose to go on a 3, 5 or 7 day tour! They'll even be able to select the tour route!
When sims get home from their world tour, they'll be a bit fatigued so don't expect back to back tours as its doctors orders to stay home for 4 days!
AND THE AWARD GOES TO...
As Mentioned previously with Independent Artists, Signed Artists can get nominated for a special award!

After submitting a music project, your sims record label could submit your work on your behalf to the Will Wright Visionary Arts Committee. Just attend the award show you're nominated for and see if you win! If you win you'll come home with a Starlight Accolade Award (Get Famous Req.)
For storytelling there are interactions sims can perform such as Practicing Acceptance Speech in the mirror or Discussing Awards Night with other sims. If you own High School Years you can even post about it all over Social Bunny:

Hot or Not! You Decide!
Sims can check the Hot vs. Not Music Charts each week to see if their music is really selling! For now the music charts are random: Either your sim is on fire for the week and they earn a little extra cash flow! Or...they're not and they'll suffer because of it!

Took a lot to figure out how to make this work but I believe we did it! Business Owners can host a lecture to teach a class on Songwriting by using the whiteboard!
A SPECIAL INVITE
Occasionally Sims can get special invites to events such as attending San Myshuno Fashion Week, becoming a brand ambassador for a Fitness Brand or recording music for a soundtrack! Going to your photoshoots, rehearsals, performing etc. will generate a possibility for such events to occur
If you want a bit more control/storytelling focus, you can access the Special Events option in the World Tour Panel:
Sims will need to have Fame Level 3+ OR Level 5 Charisma Skill in order to access this special menu. Some Events may require other skills in place of the Fame Level requirement such as:
Wellness
Fitness
Acting
Comedy
Video Gaming
HALL OF FAMER
While rare, Artists may be selected to join the HALL OF FAME!
Sims will be taken to the ceremony where I'm sure speeches and heartfelt tributes will be held. They'll even receive a trait and a buff from the event. Hall of Famers also receive a little extra money when submitting albums
THINGS ARE GETTING MESSY
Are your sims ready for their closeup? Good! Cause word around town is a new reality show is being filmed and they're looking for musicians! Like other special events, Sims will get a phone call:
Give or take a few days after the confirmation they'll be prompted to leave for the filming location and will be gone for a few days.
When sims return they'll be given a notification and a few buffs about the role they played while filming!
Depending on the role they played, Sims may end up being the Darling or Star of the show OR they'll be the TV Villian. Either way it can help or hurt your sims career after filming! And Dont worry your sims will be PAID!
