An exploratory improv scaffold that builds on "stone serpent: hand variation."
The activity
In this version, rather than the backward mover touching the serpent with their hands, they are softly touching the serpent's mid-section with their toes. The activity blends the "front and back reach" from Nurture with the perceptual challenge of the stone serpent series.
More variations
Brush the side: Instead of touching the mid-section, the backward mover can brush the serpent's side with their toes.
Hybrid: Weave the hand variation with the foot variation, or even with the "brush the side" variation.
Hard safety rule
The backward mover must keep their eyes on the target throughout the touch. Looking over either shoulder is allowed, but turning around to face the serpent or even presenting a full side profile petrifies the mover for 3 seconds.
Analyzing the video
Sometimes, movers will counter‑balance by reaching away with an arm, creating a gentle seesaw. Sometimes they won't. It just depends on their comfort. After a while, practitioners learn to move only as much as needed. This is part of finding their Way.
Wayfinding notes
The partner, the ground, gravity, and the space around you afford the movement. You, as the Wayfinder, perceive the path.
