DESCRIPTION

If you're seeing this post - thank you! The fact that you're here means the world to me. I want to foster a community with the love of animation at the center of it all, and we can't build that community without YOU! I want to share what I know about animation so we can all learn from each other, grow, and find inspiration in unlikely places. Whether you're here just to show support, you're an animator yourself, or you're just a fan of animation in general, thank you!

In the name of education, what you see here is something very few people get to see - my rough first pass of the animation I did for MineDoo! I think there's value to be found in sharing my various stages of animation... even the messy, unclean stages that I wish I could hide away in some dusty old attic forever.

As you can see here, hardly anything is defined and it's mostly chickenscratch. After I thought I had my timing figured out, I got a little too overeager and started inbetweening. It took me far too long to realize that Doo was moving far too quickly for a character of his size! The most distinct difference you'll notice between this pass and the final version is the difference in timing.

Work fast and work rough when starting an animation! Don't get caught up on the details. You're trying to find the right movement on your rough pass, the finer details should come later. If you realize that your timing isn't working after trying to make your first pass pretty, you'll have wasted a lot of time on drawings that you'll now have to redraw to get your timing where it should be.
