I worked really hard trying to making a realistic bird pattern that would, require minimal pattern pieces, require minimal fabrics and require fabrics that are easily accessible / common. There were a few birds that I thought would meet these design requirements so I put these qualifying bird up to a vote. The Long-Tailed Grackle was an overwhelming favorite, winning the vote!
Since Long-Tailed Grackle are basically all black this made making the seams really easy and I was able to get the amount of pattern pieces down to around 40 pieces. This is crazy! My last red tail hawk plushie had 10 pieces just in the beak haha. so this Long-Tailed Grackle is way more stream lined.
(Also I have made this pattern in such a way where it is not required to add the legs at all, or you can just make the bottom portions. as I know tinny legs are hard to turn right side out)
Usually Realistic Bird plushies are hard to create. They require a lot off different fabrics as there feather patterning can be so crazy difficult to mimic with fabrics, and because of this they require so many seems. On top of that you have to have the right fabric lengths and pieces can be supper intricate.
So I think the Long-Tailed Grackle was a great addition to the Patreon patterns and I hope you guys enjoy it!
