Event Comics Month VI
In 2026, we’re going to have Event Comics Month VI! It is tentatively scheduled for June, but obviously with the schedule being what it is, that can change. Voting begins now!
If you’ve never done this before, below is a list of DC and Marvel Event Comics that have not yet been covered on the show with a description of their overall plot. I focus ONLY on DC and Marvel because of their status AS the Big Two and so few other companies DO event comics.
My definition of an Event Comic, as a reminder, is a book that has an effect on a significant part of the universe that has both a central miniseries where the main plot advances as well as tie-in issues in various individual books. It’s sometimes a case-by-case basis for what I consider an event or not, but these are the basic rules I set forth, with the occasional exception to those rules. If you don’t see an Event on this list, chances are it’s already been covered in one way or another! All you have to do is reply to this post with your votes – two from DC, two from Marvel. PLEASE HAVE YOUR SELECTIONS READY BEFORE YOU POST – I get e-mail notifications when you reply and that is how I tally the votes. If you EDITED a comment, I don’t see that edit and I have to go and track down your comment to see what the actual votes are. Voting ends in one week!
With that, reply with your votes!
DC
Legends: Darkseid, wanting to destroy the superheroes of earth in a bid for world domination, sends an agent to earth to turn humanity against said superheroes by convincing people they cause more harm than good.
Millennium: The Guardians of the Universe and the Zamarons decide to leave this dimension, choosing 12 individuals to represent the next stage of evolution for humanity – the new Guardians of the Universe. However, the robotic Manhunters had hidden robot duplicates of heroes and supporting characters and try to stop the New Guardians from forming. This is the origin of the New Guardians comic, AKA the one Snowflame came from.
Invasion!: A three-issue miniseries where the aliens known as the Dominators assemble a coalition of alien races to invade earth. While a simple enough premise, it introduces the concept of the meta-gene into the DC Universe, explaining why it has so many superheroes.
War of the Gods: Gods of various pantheons around the world begin appearing and fighting with one another, all manipulated by Circe. While the mini-series itself is only four issues long, it tied into various other books, being around 25 parts long. However, the review would focus strictly on the four-issue mini… and all the confusion and chaos that comes from that.
Eclipso: The Darkness Within: Like Armageddon 2001, this is a two-issue miniseries where most of the crossover occurs in the annual issues of the DC Universe. Eclipso, the demonic supervillain who can posses other beings, begins a campaign to destroy the heroes of earth through possessing them, revealing his true nature. Like Armageddon 2001, this would focus on the two issues while briefly touching on the tie-ins.
Underworld Unleashed: The demon Neron, now having taken over hell, offers many supervillains whatever they wish in exchange for their soul or completing a job for him. This results in a scheme by Neron to invade earth with an army from hell… while supervillains run amuck with many now possessing demonic abilities.
The Final Night: A sun-eater, a living doomsday weapon, is sent to our solar system and begins consuming earth’s sun. As the world erupts into chaos and begins to freeze, is the only hope for saving earth the former Green Lantern Hal Jordan?
Genesis: A “Godwave” has travelled through the universe before. On its first pass over earth, it created Gods. When it bounced back and hit us again, it created superheroes. However, Darkseid now plans to take the power of this Godwave for his own purposes and the heroes of earth must stop him again.
DC One Million: Justice Legion Alpha, a superhero team from the 853rd Century, travel back in time to meet the Justice League of the modern day to honor the return of the original Superman, who has been in self-imposed exile in the sun for 15,000 years. However, they must contend with a plot thousands of years in the making involving Vandal Savage and Solaris the Living Sun!
Day of Judgment: I previously covered this briefly on Longbox of the Damned. A fallen angel is granted the power of the Spectre, freezing over hell and unleashing its denizens onto earth, forcing a team of heroes to travel to hell to reignite the fires while a team travels to heaven to try to find a new host for the Spectre.
Joker: Last Laugh: The Joker receives news that he’s going to die! What’s he to do when the world will soon lose his comic genius? Why, turn all super-villains out there into Jokers like him!
Forever Evil: Following the events of a crossover between the various Justice League titles, all of the Justice Leagues are presumed dead and supervillains from a mirror universe come to take over the world.
Justice League: Endless Winter: The villainous Frost King sets out to cause an eternal global winter on earth and the Justice League must stop him! NOTE: like Armageddon 2001, this is an event where there was an opening issue and a closing issue for its central miniseries with all the tie-ins happening in between. And like that one, I’d only truly cover the main miniseries while briefly covering on the tie-ins.
Infinite Frontier: In the wake of Dark Nights: Death Metal, the DC Universe has changed! Everything that has happened before is remembered! And now the various heroes of the DC Universe must deal with the consequences to it, both personal and for the world(s) at large…
Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths: The Justice League are dead! And it couldn’t have happened at a worse time. Darkseid has learned of the Great Darkness, a force that has been around since before the Multiverse existed – manipulating events to destroy the light. And he plans to take it for his own…
Knight Terrors: After the discovery of a longtime Justice League foe dead in the Hall of Justice, a new villain called Insomnia arrives to make nightmares a reality!
Titans: Beast World: Due to a string of bizarre circumstances, people of earth are infected with spores that transform them into animals… and only the Titans can save the world!
Absolute Power: After being built up over time, Amanda Waller executes a grand plan to rid the world of superpowered beings, with eventual plans to conquer the entire multiverse!
Marvel
Contest of Champions: The very first crossover event… depending on one’s qualifiers. Elders of the Universe play a game to decide the fate of another elder. The game is played by pitting two groups of heroes against one another to claim the prize of “The Golden Globe of Life!”
Mys-Tech Wars: The demonic company Mys-Tech creates a duplicate earth called Unearth to try to take over the world – UnEarth acting as a voodoo doll – whatever happens to UnEarth happens to the real one. Notable thing about it is that a lot of its lore is based out of MarvelUK characters and concepts, but involving American Marvel stuff.
Maximum Security: Several alien powers, sick of earth getting involved in intergalactic affairs, has the earth designated as a penal colony for the universe’s most dangerous criminals.
Annihilation: Annihilus, ruler of the Negative Zone, launches a massive wave of ships to conquer the known universe. Unlike all the other events, this does NOT take place on earth, focusing instead on Marvel’s cosmic characters. This review would cover the prologue and the main miniseries, but not the lead-in minis.
Annihilation: Conquest: The sequel to Annihilation, the heroes from that miniseries must now contend with an invasion of the Phalanx.
War of Kings: War breaks out between multiple galactic powers, including the Inhumans, Kree, and most especially the Shi’ar, which begins invading neighboring systems.
Siege: Norman Osborn, who has been put in charge of SHIELD’s replacement organization HAMMER, lays siege to Asgard to try to get it under his control. This storyline ends the superhuman registration act from Civil War and various other longrunning storylines.
Shadowland: Daredevil, now in control of the ninja clan known as the Hand, returns to Hell’s Kitchen to try to use the Hand as a force for justice… but something is clearly wrong with him as he gets into conflict with other street-level heroes.
Chaos War: The Chaos King Amatsu-Mikaboshi assembles an army of alien gods to invade earth and return the Marvel Universe to a state of darkness, forcing several Deific characters to join forces to try to defeat them.
Fear Itself: The Asgardian fear deity known as the Serpent comes to earth to claim the throne of Asgard, transforming many of Marvel’s heroes and villains into its agents.
X-Men: Schism: In the wake of several machinations regarding the remaining Mutants, Wolverine and Cyclops’ differing philosophies come to a head and risk destroying the unity of the X-Men.
Avengers vs. X-Men: The Phoenix Force is on its way back to earth. The Avengers believe it heralds the destruction of earth, but the X-Men believe it’s a sign that mutants will rise again after the various calamities that have befallen them.
Age of Ultron: In an alternate future, Ultron has taken over the earth. Wolverine and the Invisible Woman travel back in time to try to kill Hank Pym before he creates Ultron… and the consequences that follow.
Infinity: While the Avengers are dealing with an alien threat known as the Builders, Thanos returns to earth and gets into conflict with the Inhumans.
Original Sin: The powerful being known as Uatu the Watcher has been murdered. The event follows the investigation of who killed him and why.
Death of Wolverine: A virus deactivates Wolverine’s healing factor, preventing him from regenerating from his injuries. The main event follows Wolverine’s attempt to find out who has put a bounty on his head.
Avengers & X-Men: AXIS: The Red Skull, utilizing the brain of Charles Xavier, begins a telepathic assault on the world in a bid for world domination.
Secret Wars (2015): Due to the events of other crossovers before this, the multiverse collapses. Dr. Doom manages to shape a new world together patched together from pieces of other parallel universes, with only a group of survivors from both the main and ultimate Marvel Universes there to stop him.
Dead No More: The Clone Conspiracy will eventually be covered as part of the regular Clone Saga reviews and is not under consideration.
Inhumans vs. X-Men: The Terrigen Mist, a cloud that reveals superpowers in individuals (and linking them to the beings known as the Inhumans), has been saturating the planet. It’s a joyous day for the Inhumans… but not for Mutantkind, as the Terrigen Mist is deadly to Mutants!
Monsters Unleashed: Giant monsters begin appearing all over earth, possibly only a Harbinger of a greater foe to come! And how will they stop these terrible creatures? Their hopes lie with a little kid who likes to draw monsters in his sketchbook…
Damnation: While restoring Las Vegas after the events of Secret Empire, Doctor Strange unintentionally opens a door for Mephisto to rule over the town and corrupt several heroes! Can the supernatural heroes of the Marvel Universe stop the guy who is essentially the devil?
Infinity Countdown: Various events across the cosmos begin to converge as Hank Pym, now merged with Ultron, seeks out the Soul Gem and other forces work to gather the newly-restored Infinity Gems.
Infinity Wars: As various factions work to collect the Infinity Gems, a creature known as Devondra waits inside the Soul Gem preparing to feast on the universe… and characters of the Marvel Universe become warped and combined inside a corrupted Soul Gem!
Spider-Geddon: In the sequel to the storyline “Spider-Verse,” a group of beings known as the Inheritors – beings who feed on animal, human, and deity totems, escape from a world they were imprisoned on and seek their revenge on Spider-Man from all realities!
War of the Realms: The ruler of the Dark Elves, Malekith the Accursed, leads his army to conquer Midgard AKA earth – the final realm he has yet to conquer!
Absolute Carnage: Carnage is back and he’s set his sights on killing every person who has ever worn a symbiote! And considering a few invasions by symbiotes over the years, that’s a lot more people than you’d think!
Empyre: The constantly feuding Kree and Skrull Empires have joined forces under a new banner... and all animal life is threatened! The only ones who can stop them are the Avengers and the Fantastic Four!
Iron Man 2020: Tony Stark’s estranged brother Arno has taken control of Stark Industries and believes that a creature called the Extinction Entity is coming to earth to liberate all artificial life forms and absorb them… and thus works to force all artificial intelligence to submit to humanity!
King in Black: Knull, the God and creator of the symbiotes, comes to earth to conquer it with an army of the creatures!
Heroes Reborn (2021): The world is changed! The Avengers never formed, its various heroes never even coming to be and only Blade the Vampire Hunter knows the way things should be! This story is unrelated to the 90s storyline where Image creators remade Marvel Heroes.
Devil’s Reign: Wilson Fisk – the Kingpin – becomes Mayor of New York City and resolves to rid the town of superheroes by outlawing them!
A.X.E.: Judgment Day: The Avengers are pulled into a conflict between the X-Men and the Eternals as a being called the Progenitor must judge humanity for its sins!
Death of Doctor Strange: The Sorcerer Supreme has been murdered! The heroes of the Marvel Universe must discover who the killer is before the world is destroyed without its best mystical protector!
Sinister War: Several teams of Spider-Man’s villains go to war with one another, Spider-Man caught in the middle!
Blood Hunt: The Darkforce Dimension opens and the sun is blotted out! And thus vampires begin to invade the earth… and their leader is none other than Blade!
Venom War: Eddie Brock and his son Dylan go to war with each other over the Venom symbiote after seeing glimpses of the future, determined to be its one true host… and the rest of the Marvel Universe is dragged into their feud!
One World Under Doom is too recent an Event to be voted on for Event Comics Month VI.
