Penthouse (RoN) [alpha]
Hi. All in all, not very good news. The game Ready or Not has "given me a pig" again. I usually start porting maps by finding large models that are just boxes, walls, ceiling, floor, and some separate rooms, putting this model in the hammer editor and starting to build from scratch.
This time, I was very unpleasantly surprised that, in fact, these models do not exist. The entire map of the penthouse is built simply as a scene build from a variety of wall models and wall panels, and as carelessly as possible, even where there should be a straight line, the models are constantly jumping. Also, almost all the walls are assembled like a sandwich, so that there is one texture on one side and another on the other side, as well as all the walls turned out to be of different thicknesses, which further complicated the construction.
I already knew that RON had a slightly specific approach to creating maps and I would have to look for the textures of the very base of the map manually, since they were applied directly in the UE editor and it was almost impossible to get information about them, but here I had to simply open the game, look at what was on the wall, rummage through the game and look for a suitable texture visually. I still couldn't find one tile texture, so I temporarily stretched another one.
As a result, it only took me 4 days to get this map out of the game and almost another week to clean it of debris and restore the missing textures. It is also a painful topic to build walls at an angle, especially if they still have niches for decorative panels or doorways. The map is essentially a blank. It's just a frame, just walls and pale lighting. All furniture and decor models will have to be rescheduled for July.
If you have no idea about the original, the map itself is just a floor of a skyscraper. There is a central lobby and 4 large apartments, one with a small balcony. One apartment is that of a hippie, the second is that of a sailor, the third is that of a musician, and the fourth is that of a businessman, perhaps.
