I’ve been working through the next holder design, and this one is a little different.
At first glance, it would be easy to just take the cooler can holder shape and scale it up for disposable party cups. I may still do a fun version like that, but for the main design I decided to treat this as its own product.
The reason is that disposable cups have a totally different set of problems than cans and bottles.
Cans are fairly consistent. Most people know what size can they are using, and the cooler can holder shape works really well around that form factor. Disposable cups are different. The top diameter is much larger, the cups are tapered, they vary a lot by brand and size, they usually have no insulation, no handle, rarely have a lid, and most people probably do not know exactly what cup they will be using ahead of time.
So instead of making a holder for one specific cup, I’m trying to make something that fits the majority of common disposable party cups and actually improves the way they are used.
The things I’m looking at are:
better grip and handling
insulation
a more stable base
lid options
cup holder friendliness
compatibility with common party cup sizes
maybe even a backup use case for cans, if I can make that work without compromising the cup design
This is still in development, but I wanted to show a little bit of the thought process because this is one of those designs where the easy answer is not necessarily the best answer.
The cooler can holder form factor is fun, and I’m not done with that ecosystem at all. But for disposable cups, I think this needs to solve a slightly different problem.
