DESCRIPTION

Hello my beautiful patrons,

If you don't know what this is, more power to you.  I'll be catching the internet up this week. But the short story is I started my career almost 10 years ago now with a channel called Google Translate Sings.  And we are going to celebrate her decade of life with a little video.

If you feel like bopping this script through several languages in Google Translate and back into English and commenting with it below, I will be forever grateful.

Seriously though, I know like 50% of you are so confused right now.  Don't worry about it. :P

I'm excited to do this (possibly the last for a while or maybe even forever) translation with you. <3

Have at it, friends xx

It has been 10 years since I very first released a video on this channel, back when I was a young sapling with no gray hairs to speak of.

That first video was Let It Go: according to Google Translate and with that video my life truly changed forever.

I was a teenager, and I knew that I loved singing, acting, making videos and creating community, but I thought I’d have to ultimately focus on one of those things and give up the others.

After the first video went viral I realized that you all had given me the chance of a lifetime.  The chance to actually do everything I love all at once.  As my career.

Making this channel was truly the best way to start my work online.  It was like being on a super fun TV show that I had complete creative control over.

And it was just enough about the concept and enough “not about me personally ” that I could separate myself from it enough to learn as a teenager how to deal with hate comments and be confident in my own abilities.

It taught me how to produce good videos.

And it taught me how to produce music and collaborate with producers.

And it introduced me to so many incredible creators all over the world that I am still grateful to call my friends.

All of these skills and experiences gave me such a huge leg up as I started my second channel MALINDA where I veered away from found content to original music and ultimately folk music.

But most importantly, Google Translate Sings gave me you.  The incredible community of whitty, fun, joyful people that remarkably have continued to follow my work as it has evolved.

That kind of trust in a creator is so so rare, and I don’t take that for granted for a second.  So thank you from the bottom of my heart.

As for where I’ve been, I make my own music now.  Here’s a clip.

And as for Tom McGovern who joined this channel back in 2021?  He is touring the country with his new wildly successful comedy trio Wolves of Glendale.

While we’re here let me answer the two questions that I get the most often about this channel.

What was my top favorite video we made in the last 10 years?

Hamilton.  The opening number.  Still the funniest one to me by far.  With My Heart Will Go On and Shape of You on its tail.

And secondly, the big question, will I ever make another Twisted Translations video?

I might end up eating my words either way.  So I won’t confirm or deny.

But for one, making these videos is now much harder because Google Translate is better at her job.

Tricking her into saying funny things with 10 years worth of technical improvements is actually remarkably hard, so the whole process takes a lot longer.

And on top of that I can tell you that as a human, my time is now being spent differently.

I’m a touring artist now.  I’m releasing so much music.  I made a movie last year.  My creative heart is, quite simply, in other places and has been for a long while.

I’m still a content creator, and over on MALINDA I’m making what feels right for me in this new decade of my life.

There isn’t a lot of precedent for moving on from YouTube projects like this other than the creator feeling like they’ve completed something.  And I really do feel like this project is complete.

I will, however, leave the door open to this channel as a place for me or my creator friends to come back if by some chance it ever feels right.

And I hope that people can continue to enjoy this channel for all that it already is.

What an honor it has been to perform for you and act absolutely crazy in front of a camera for so many years.

We truly have grown up together.  And it’s been such a privilege to grow up with you and in front of you, getting to do what I love every day.

A huge shoutout to every single person who has crossed paths with me to work on this channel as well.  I would be nowhere as a creator without collaboration, and I’m so grateful for this channel for teaching me how important that is.

If you’d like to check out my current work I will leave everything down below.

Thank you for an amazing 10 years my friends.  Peace out.
