DESCRIPTION

As hinted at, I didn't just port The End is Nigh to Emscripten. I also ported it to Linux!

Like Noctropolis, this game also came in as a butterfly effect from my call for game ports. It started when Jump (uh) jumped at my offer, and put me in touch with Tyler and Edmund. I wanted to do a really high-quality Emscripten port and take the goodwill from that effort to make a pitch to get this running as a Real Honest-To-God Native Linux Game. I was in the middle of drafting an email laying out my argument when Tyler asked, out of the blue, "hey, would you be interested in doing a port to Linux?" 😍

I got down to work immediately.

This is live on Steam now. For the time being, it's in a beta branch, but it's available to anyone that owns the game on Steam.

To access it, launch Steam and install the game. It'll download zero bytes! That's okay for now. Right-click the (empty) installed game in your library, and then "Properties" on the popup menu:

...then on the "Betas" tab, choose "linuxbeta" from the dropdown menu and then click "Close"...

...and the real game should start to download. It's about 230 megabytes. Finally, brag about your gigabit fiber connection to all your patrons:

...and then click "PLAY"...!

(All of this effort is only needed until the game leaves beta. Eventually it'll just install like any other Steam game.)

"But hold up," you might say, "I don't _own_ the game on Steam!" Good news: later today, you will! Tyler and Edmund were kind enough to supply enough Steam keys for _all_ of my patrons! I'll be sending a Steam key to each current patron later today. I don't get to do this for every game, but I love when I can.  :)   Keep an eye on your Patreon inbox!

This work was funded 100% by my patrons: the Linux game catalog continues to grow, thanks to your support. Be sure to remind your friends and family that you are totally and indisputably awesome!
