DESCRIPTION

Earlier this month, after we blasted Turok 2 out to the world, and got Turok 1 onto GOG.com, I was about to parachute out of the Nightdive plane and hit the ground running on a title from a totally different developer, when they asked, "hey, you want to do one more game real fast?"

Forsaken is built on the same idea (indeed, on the same engine) as the Turok titles. Nightdive loads the original game data into their custom engine and rewrites the game logic. Some things are a 1:1 mapping, naturally, but the remaster contains no source code from the original game. Since the bulk of the porting work was done for Turok, getting Turok 2 up was a small job, and Forsaken followed the same idea. The game code is a tiny piece of the whole puzzle, and the engine isolates most of the portability concerns, so it wasn't totally crazy when, about 2 weeks ago, Nightdive asked: hey...can we get Linux and Mac for launch day?

And here are the results. We made it!

Forsaken Remastered is on Steam over here. Unlike other titles, this is not in a beta branch; you buy it and you get official Linux, Mac and Windows builds right now.

Nightdive and I will be monitoring the forums and looking for bug reports, and we'll iterate on fast fixes. When we all get a moment to breathe, we'll spend a little time moving Turok 2 out of beta. All the while, I'll be juggling a few projects and the next game on my todo list; those with Trello access can tell you: that list is both mysterious in nature and staggering in weight.

While I can't promise a new game every month (or two games, like this month!), I'm really thrilled with how this Patreon has been going. This is all such a change from years of encouraging people to vote with their wallets in hopes that some corporate moneyman bean counter will notice a small move of the needle. Now you still vote with your wallets, but your money is directly converted into new Linux games. I hope you keep loving this situation as much as I do, my kind patrons.
