...so Amir and I didn't stop with A Dark Room for the Switch. We took the engine we built for that, and spent a few more months improving and generalizing it, and announced it earlier this week.
We're calling it the DragonRuby Game Toolkit.
The elevator pitch is this: you write games in Ruby. It's super fast and easy to make games and even easier to publish them for lots of different platforms. You don't need to know anything about rendering: you fill in arrays with what your screen should look like and the engine figures it out how to draw it for you.
The five-minute whirlwind intro looks like this:

The current public build runs on and publishes games to Windows, Linux, and macOS, but we're also about to add support for the Raspberry Pi and the web! Here's a work-in-progress web version of Flappy Dragon, which took less than 400 lines of Ruby to build. The same game code runs on all platforms.
Flappy Dragon is free, but we're selling the game toolkit for people that want to make their own games, over here on itch.io. That being said: anyone that is pledging 20 dollars or more when Patreon runs your credit card this month will get a download key (even if you drop your pledge right afterwards). Patreon is starting their engines in the next few hours, so don't delay!
I hope you play around with the game toolkit and build something fun!
