Devlog Update: Body Status, Dialogue Mechanics & Character Design
Welcome to this week’s devlog! This week, I’ve focused on the core pillars of the narrative experience: Body Status and Conversation Mechanisms. I’ve also overhauled the character proportions to be more realistic and visually appealing.
A quick note on the visuals: I’ve included as much graphic detail as possible in this public post. However, some of the more "sensitive" close-ups showing specific progression stages are reserved for Patreon to keep this post within platform guidelines.
Body Status Update
We’ve officially integrated the protagonist's Body Status system. It tracks four core areas (five, if you are playing as a hermaphrodite): Facial Features, Torso, Anus, and Genitalia.
As seen in the second image, I’ve updated the player sprites and the descriptions for the torso and facial segments. I originally planned custom textures for these, but I ultimately decided to use detailed versions of the player portraits. This keeps the aesthetic consistent across battle, portrait, and status screens without the "visual clutter" of three different art styles. Of course, these textures update in real-time to reflect your current mutations.
The Body Status menu offers a unique perspective. Rather than the protagonist’s internal thoughts, the descriptions are written as professional clinical analyses of body mutations. You’ll see "exotic" terminology like Axial Segment or Cranio-Facial Segment rather than simple terms like "torso" or "face."
Why the clinical tone? Because, the hormones and substances the protagonist consumes are not of this world - and someone, somewhere, is meticulously documenting your transformation.
Key Features:
Three Stages of Progression: Descriptions and portraits evolve alongside your corruption (or transmutation) levels.
Corruption vs. Surgery: Corruption changes are subtle and realistic, while surgical "interventions" provide drastic, sometimes irreversible, gameplay shifts.
Conversation Mechanism
The dialogue system has received a major facelift. As you can see in the first GIF, the system now supports:
Animated text and branching player choices.
In-line image rendering and expression swaps for the protagonist.
It also supports dynamic events like scene transitions, battle encounters, and dice rolls for status checks.
The sidebar will beadded to the empty space on the left of the conversation screen. sidebar on the left will serve as your HUD, displaying the in-game date, time, location, and present NPCs. It will also track player conditions such as stamina and fatigue. I am currently planning five mental and physical condition stats that will influence how the story unfolds. Keep an eye out for this week’s Patreon poll to help decide which stats we implement first!
Character Design & Refinement
The protagonist’s sprite has been reworked. I’ve adjusted the proportions to be more anatomically accurate and the facial features to be more aesthetically pleasing.
I’ve posted the full-body comparison on Patreon so you can see the changes across every segment. Aside from these highlights, I’ve made several miscellaneous "under-the-hood" tweaks to keep the game running smoothly. From now on, I’ll minimize those details brief to keep these updates focused.
See you next week!
